Summer temperatures take hold: Spain weather forecast July 11-15
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
Most of Spain can look forward to a dry, sunny weekend with temperatures in the 30s
Weather warnings for high temperatures on Thursday
Over the next few days, the temperatures will continue to rise across Spain as the country is finally gripped by summer heat. Many regions have already seen the thermometers creep towards the 40-degree mark and the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued several heat warnings, but the hottest day of the week is still to come.
Thursday July 11 is set to beat all of the records set so far this year, as the warm air currents spread to practically the entire country, pushing the temperatures up above 35ºC in most of inland Spain, along with the south and east.
It will be dry and sunny for the most part, but the far north will remain cloudy with some light rain forecast in Galicia, Cantabria and around the Pyrenees.
Aemet’s orange warnings have been activated for the Guadalquivir area of Jaén, the Sierra Morena area, the Hellín and Almansa area in the province of Albacete, the interior of the south of the province of Valencia and the middle Ebro valley. The yellow warnings extend across a large part of inland Andalucía, eastern Castilla-La Mancha, the southern half of Madrid, the central strip of Aragon and inland Catalonia.
On Friday July 12, winds will shift to a northerly component in northern Spain and the Balearic Islands, which will cause a drop in temperatures. The day will be cloudy in the north, with showers in the Cantabrian Sea, the Pyrenees area and northeast of Catalonia, with occasional storms in mountain areas.
On the other hand, day-time temperatures will rise slightly on the Mediterranean coast and the Canary Islands.
Strong Levante winds will cause quite heavy cloud cover along the Mediterranean coast on Saturday July 13, where temperatures will drop by a few degrees. Showers are forecast in much of the Valencian Community and the Region of Murcia. It should be mostly sunny in the rest of the country, although the overcast skies will gradually move east later in the day, bringing a chance of light rain.
Overall, it will be a hot summer day, without too many temperature extremes.
The pleasant weather will continue on Sunday July 14 and Spain will be largely bright and sunny with the exception of the extreme north again, where it will be cloudy and wet, especially in the afternoon.
Daytime temperatures will fall a little in most parts but the mercury will continue to climb into the high 30s in the Mediterranean area and the Canary Islands.
Looking ahead to next week, very few changes are expected on Monday July 15. A passing front will continue to cause cloudy skies and light rainfall in Galicia and Cantabria and while it could be a little overcast to the south in the early morning, this will clear quickly.
Daytime temperatures should continue to rise in Mediterranean regions and around the Gulf of Cadiz, with the mercury tipped to exceed 35ºC in large parts of Andalucía.
