Summer temperatures this weekend: Spain weather forecast May 23-26
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
The mercury will hit 35ºC in several parts of southern Spain over the next few days
Minimum and maximum temperatures expected on Sunday May 26
May hasn’t exactly been the fair-weather month we’ve come to expect but as we close in on June, the temperatures are going to take a dramatic upswing. The heat will begin to take centre stage as the end of the week approaches, when the stormy activity that we are having in northern Spain will also subside.
But as the week went on, the storms died down and the mercury began to creep up in most parts, a trend which should continue well into the last week of May.
There’s still a good chance of some stormy showers on Thursday May 23, but these will be mostly confined to high mountainous areas during the afternoon. High pressures will dominate in the rest of Spain, so we can expect slightly cloudy or clear skies in most of the country. High clouds will dot the southern half of the country and the Balearic Islands, but these won’t stop the sun from shining for most of the day.
Daytime temperatures will shoot up along the Atlantic coast and in the Canary Islands, while the mercury will be somewhat lower in the Mediterranean. A maximum temperature of 30ºC will be exceeded in the Guadalquivir valley.
Anticyclonic weather will continue on Friday May 24 so we’ll have a repeat of the bright and sunny day in most of the country. The release of some cold air at altitude over the northeast of the country will cause abundant daytime clouds to grow there, which will culminate in storms in the afternoon, affecting above all the Pyrenees and nearby areas. Temperatures will continue to rise across the board, and Friday will be noticeably warmer in the middle of the day.
Sun and heat will be the order of the day on Saturday May 25 as the thermometers once again take a huge leap upwards. In inland Andalucia, the mercury will approach 35ºC but in general, the temperatures will hover between 25 and 30ºC.
Sunday May 26 will easily be the hottest day of the week. The sun will continue to shine in most of the country, at the very worst with the presence of some high clouds in the skies.
Temperatures will continue to rise, reaching a maximum of 35ºC in places such as Córdoba and Seville and remaining close to this in many other parts of inland and southern Spain.
