Temperatures set to hit 40 degrees this week: Andalusia weather forecast May 27-June 2
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
Even before we hit June, some places in the south of Spain are due to experience incredibly high temperatures
Andalucía is forecast to break the 40-degree barrier (104ºF) for the first time in 2024 this week as temperatures rise towards the end of May.
Monday morning, May 27, starts off a bit cloudy, with “intervals of low clouds and mist” on the Mediterranean coast and the Strait of Gibraltar, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). While it will mostly be sunny for the rest of the day, they say there could occasional showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon in the eastern mountains of Jaén and Granada. There will also be a “slight presence of suspended dust in the southeast of the region” which could make things seem a bit hazy.
For Tuesday 28, there will also be clouds in the morning, especially for the Costa del Sol and possibly even “occasional drizzle” around Cádiz and in “the mountain ranges of the eastern interior”. On the Mediterranean side, there will be “light to moderate easterly winds, with strong intervals on the Almería coast and the area of the Strait of Gibraltar”. Elsewhere, there will be light variable winds.

It is on Wednesday 29 when maximum temperatures will start to rise in earnest and, while there remains the possibility of wind in Almería and rain in Jaén, it will mainly be sunny and bright.
Temperatures continue to rise as we move into Thursday 30, reaching as high as 40ºC in the city of Écija (Seville) and in the town of Montoro (Córdoba), two places that are frequently among the hottest in all of Spain during the summer. This is the first time we will see temperatures over 40ºC this year, and it may point to an incredibly hot July and August ahead of us.

On Friday 31, it will continue to be very hot, with temperatures rising over 40ºC in more parts of Córdoba province. Elsewhere in Andalucía, other inland parts of the region will have maximum temperatures in the mid- to high-30s while on the coast it will be around 30ºC or in the mid-20s in Málaga.
For the weekend, as the month of June gets underway, the extreme temperatures ease off a little, but only by a couple of degrees and it will still be very sunny and hot.
