The must-visit ski resort in the south of Spain where the sun shines 320 days of the year
If you are dreaming of a white Christmas or an adventurous escape this winter, the Sierra Nevada might just be right for you
The Sierra Nevada, Granada, boasts 320 days of sunshine a year, and it is Europe's most southern standing ski resort.
Located in Andalucía, the Sierra Nevada Ski resort is a little warmer than many snow-capped ski destinations.
However, standing at over 2,000m above sea level the mountain resort is seldom short of snow from December through until April. Covering 1,200m in size, Sierra Nevada is the largest snow range in Spain, with slopes funnelling down to Pradollano base at the bottom of Mulhacén mountain.
The Mulhacén mountain is the largest on the Spanish peninsula, and certain slopes of the resort sit above 2,700m above sea level. Such height provides perfect conditions for skiing and snowboarding, while also providing fantastic views across the beautiful valley of the range.
As an expert spokesperson from Crystal ski holidays stated, “Sierra Nevada offers a wide variety of slopes suitable for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities, from beginners, intermediate and experts, there are plenty of opportunities for carving, freestyle, and off-piste adventures, so there really is something for everyone.”
Furthermore, such activities as night skiing can be performed on the well kept ski resort, that allows skiers to view the sea and at times the coast of Africa on the clearest days. The resort is also a perfect place for families, as there are plenty of activities for children, such as snow tubes and toboggan runs.
For adults the resort is also packed full of fun both day and night. The resort has a lively près-ski atmosphere, which is centred around the terrace and tapas culture. Many of the bars are lively and stay open to the early hours of the morning.
Direct flights operate from London Luton Airport to Málaga-Costa del Sol airport, where holidaymakers can board transfers to Sierra Nevada.
Ski holidays to Sierra Nevada are more affordable compared to other destinations in places such as France and Switzerland.
