This 16th-century two-floor building in the centre of the old town of Yecla used to be part of one of the most important structures in the town: the municipal grain store, where it was decided how and to whom the valuable cereal crops should be distributed.
The building fell out of use in the 19th century and part of it made way for the Lonja market (now the municipal auditorium), but one corner remains, with its ancient cloisters adding to the baroque and Renaissance architecture of the Plaza Mayor. Other buildings in the same square include the Town Hall, the Palacio de los Alarcos and the clock tower, all of them grouped around this single square which for centuries has been at the centre of life in Yecla.
