ARCHIVED - The Salto del Usero in Bullas becomes the fifth Natural Monument in Murcia
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
Bullas’s most famous natural rock pool and water feature gets official recognition
The course of the river
Mula, as it passes through the Salto del Usero, is of great hydrological, geomorphological and sedimentological interest, due to the processes of erosion and dilution of the travertines present there, generating the formation of a vault. The water rushes through it towards the base of this hollow, generating a 4-metre-high waterfall and a deep pool of about 5 metres.
A Government representative said that the new classification of the Salto del Usero shows “the regional government’s commitment to the conservation and enhancement of our natural heritage, which in 2023 will result, once the budget is approved, in an investment of 251 million euros that places the Region at the forefront of national environmental policy.”
The law states that Natural Monuments must be formations of “notorious singularity, rarity or beauty, which deserve special protection”, and which may include geological formations, palaeontological and mineralogical sites, stratotypes and other natural areas which are of special interest due to the singularity or importance of their scientific, cultural or scenic values.
It is this unique beauty and rarity that makes the Salto del Usero worthy of special protection and conservation measures to ensure its preservation.
