The clock tower of Yecla stands in the Plaza Mayor, in the heart of the old town, between what remains of the old grains store (or “Pósito) and the former meat and fish market which has now been converted into the municipal auditorium.
Originally this was the bell tower of the church dedicated to Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, consecrated in 1605, but in the 19th century the church made way for the Lonja market and the tower was left to stand on its own, fulfilling the important role of informing locals of the passing hours of the day. It now overlooks the collection of baroque and Renaissance buildings in the Plaza Mayor, including the Palacio de los Alarcos, the Town Hall, the remains of the grain store and the home of the tourist information office.
