ARCHIVED - The Ukraine aid scheme on Camposol moves on to Phase 2

A big thank you for the efforts so far as future plans are drawn up

Shortly after the war in Ukraine began Councillor Silvana Buxton, asked the volunteers of Camposol 2025 Group to coordinate Mazarrón Council’s "Help for Ukraine" appeal on Camposol. The team began by recruiting more volunteers to assist with the collection and receipt of donations. In a matter of days, 15 further volunteers came forward from every sector on Camposol, from Condado de Alhama and from Mazarrón.

Over the following weeks the volunteers collected donations at the Social Centre on Sector B and outside the Consum supermarket. Collection boxes were also placed in Alen's on A and Qwik Save and Costa Cafe on the commercial sector. Through the enormous generosity of the residents of Camposol and beyond the response was outstanding, donating baby products, female sanitary items, food, clothing and not forgetting food for our four legged friends. During the first two weeks the team was taking two full car loads of donations per day to the Council collection point in Puerto de Mazarrón, where the volunteers worked with José Luis, the collection coordinator, to ensure donations were processed efficiently and quickly.

A great example of teamwork and community involvement!

The donations phase, as it became known, has now closed and the volunteers have moved on to phase 2 - the fundraising phase, with the aim of raising funds to pay for much needed medicines and medical supplies for Ukraine.

The first event is a dinner and dance at Mariano's on the 20th May, 7.30pm till late. Entertainment on the night is provided by Karen Noble and the Harlequin Choir,  hosted by DJ Carl Thomas.

The event, supported by charity Helping Hands, will also include an auction for high quality prizes and a raffle. Net proceeds will be used to purchase much needed medicines for Ukraine.

Tickets for the event are 15 euros including a chicken and chips meal and are available from Just Fabulous on Sector B, this event is now sold out.

Three further events are planned, a Karaoke and games night at Rendezvous on 23rd June, a quiz at the Diner on 13th July and music festival at the three bars on sector A in August. More details of these events will be announced shortly.
