Thunderstorms forecast as freezing temps ease off: Murcia weekend weather January 16-19
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
Temperatures will rise a bit this weekend, but more cold weather and rain is forecast for the middle of next week
The cold snap which has gripped Murcia this week will continue into the weekend and next week, though with some slightly warmer (if not warm!) days, according to the weather forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), who also predict isolated thunderstorms and showers for this Thursday and Friday.
In La Junquera, a small village in the municipality of Caravaca de la Cruz, a temperature record was broken when they actually reached -12.4ºC on Sunday night/Monday morning.
This Thursday January 16 it will at least be sunny across the whole of Murcia during the daytime, but temperatures are forecast to drop down to -1ºC in the north and 3-5ºC in the south – slightly higher than in previous days but still very chilly. During the day, it will get up to around 10-15ºC.
Then for Thursday night/Friday morning it will be a bit less harsh, with minimum temperatures creeping up by a few degrees. For Thursday evening, Aemet forecasts thunder and lightning in the northwest and southeast, near the Mar Menor, along with increasing windspeeds.

Aemet has also forecast rain and thunderstorms for Friday 17, starting from around midday in Cartagena, San Javier and the Mar Menor, where it will be accompanied by strong winds, and also in Caravaca and Bullas by the evening. Northeastern, central and southwestern Murcia should remain mostly dry.

Saturday 18 will once again be sunny and dry, though with some cloudy patches, and it is forecast to be the warmest day of the week, at least as far as daytime maximums go, with temperatures reaching up to 17-18ºC at the height of the day.

Sunday 19 will also be nice, but several degrees colder again – back below freezing at night in the north – with more cloud cover creeping in as we head into next week, when more freezing temperatures and rain are forecast as the week goes on.
