Nevertheless, the weather will be extremely changeable: in a nutshell, Thursday will be swelteringly hot, Friday will be dominated by haze and Saturday and Sunday will be marked by more scorching temperatures and scattered, sometimes stormy, showers.
Thursday June 6
Thursday should be largely clear with some high clouds and while it will become more overcast towards the afternoon, it will remain dry across the province. Haze will begin to build later in the day and fog banks could also appear along the southern coast.
Temperatures will shoot up, hovering between 29ºC and 33ºC, but it will be much cooler along the coast thanks to the presence of an easterly wind.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Thursday
Alcoy: 19ºC to 33ºC
Alicante: 20ºC to 29ºC
Denia: 18ºC to 28ºC
Elche: 19ºC to 31ºC
Orihuela: 19ºC to 32ºC
Friday June 7
Friday will be another day of slightly cloudy skies and the haze will continue to deepen in most of the province. No significant changes are expected in the temperatures, but Alicante city is in for a rather uncomfortable tropical night.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Friday
Alcoy: 18ºC to 32ºC
Alicante: 23ºC to 31ºC
Denia: 19ºC to 27ºC
Elche: 21ºC to 32ºC
Orihuela: 20ºC to 32ºC
Saturday June 8
Looking ahead to Saturday, daytime temperatures are expected to remain stable or increase by a degree or two. The day will be slightly cloudy with high clouds in the morning and cloudy intervals in the afternoon.
As the DANA hits Spain, showers and occasional storms are likely in inland Alicante in the afternoon, and the dust-loaded haze will also lead to plenty of muddy rain.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Saturday
Alcoy: 17ºC to 31ºC
Alicante: 21ºC to 30ºC
Denia: 20ºC to 30ºC
Elche: 20ºC to 31ºC
Orihuela: 21ºC to 33ºC
Sunday June 9
The day will begin cloudy and damp, although the storms are unlikely to spread to southern Alicante. Daytime temperatures will begin to climb again along the coast while dropping elsewhere.
