Two Alicante towns rank in the top 10 most expensive places to buy a house in Spain

House price tags in the Marina Alta and Marina Baixa areas of Alicante province are up there with the priciest in the country
A rise in interest rates, hiked prices per square metre and the loss of purchase power have done nothing to slow down house sales in Alicante province which has seen a recent boom.
In fact, during the last quarter of 2022, the province saw record sales, the best since 2007 - despite the region being home to some of the priciest towns in Spain when it comes to the property market.
The real estate portal idealista has recently published its latest ranking of the 100 most expensive and most sought-after places to buy a house in the country, and not surprisingly, most are in tourist locations and along the Mediterranean. The data is based on the average price offered per home, not per square metre, during the fourth quarter of 2022, and 16 Alicante towns have made an appearance, with two familiar locations in the top 10.
Closer to home, Javea (Xàbia) in the Marina Alta region appears in 6th place with a total average price of 793,895 euros. In 8th position is Altea, considered one of the most beautiful towns of the Mediterranean arc.
The average price of a property in this municipality in the Marina Baixa is 743,244 euros. Calpe is the third town on the list and appears in 15th place with an average price of 544,785 euros.
The coastal town is followed by Finestrat and Alfaz del Pi - 18th and 19th with price tags of 495,566 and 427,990 euros, respectively. Denia features in 24th place (376,750 euros).
In 33rd place in the ranking is El Campello with an average price of 296,624 euros and in the Vega Baja area, there's Orihuela in 34th place (287,495 euros) and Pilar de la Horadada in 47th position (246,384 euros).
The 53rd, 54th, 58th and 72nd places are occupied by Benidorm (232,368 euros), San Vicente del Raspeig (232,122 euros), Alicante (219,562 euros) and Guardamar del Segura (192,155 euros).
Elche, makes 88th place with an average house price of 171,991 euros, Torrevieja is in 96th place (155,787 euros) and Santa Pola hits 100th place with properties changing hands for an average 151,796 euros.
