Warm but unsettled this weekend: Spain weather forecast Nov 30-Dec 3
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
The temperatures across Spain will remain higher than usual but gusts and showers are likely
Weather outlook on Saturday December 2
The Puente de la Constitución, the last major holiday period before the Christmas festivities, is always highly anticipated in Spain, and even more so this year, when the two holidays, December 6 and 8, fall on Wednesday and Friday. Because of this, many people will take the opportunity to get away this weekend for a bit of R&R and the good news is that the weather is playing along for the most part.
A polar air jet will bring icy temperatures to most of Europe over the next few days but it seems that Spain will remain on the sidelines, with the thermometers set to reach between 1 and 3ºC higher than normal in large parts of the south.
It will be a wet weekend around the Pyrenees and in the northwest of the country, but the rains are unlikely to extend to the southeast coast or the Balearic Islands after Friday.
Thursday November 30
Spain will be hit by a succession of Atlantic fronts on Thursday which will lead to overcast skies and widespread rain that will spread from the northwest throughout the day. The extreme southeast will remain dry but the entry of a separate front will lead to stormy episodes in the Canary Islands.
In a game of two halves, daytime temperatures will climb in the south but drop sharply in the northwest, where some intense frosts could hit.
Friday December 1
Andalucia can expect some locally persistent rainfall early on Friday and the ever-present front will result in strong winds in much of the Mediterranean, with parts of the Valencian Community and Murcia on yellow alert for rough seas.
In the early hours, showers are possible everywhere expect the northwest but towards the afternoon these will begin to move towards the southeast, although with far less intensity.
Welcoming the first big skiing weekend of the season, up to 5cm of snow is forecast in the mountains of the Pyrenees and western Cantabria.
Nighttime temperatures will fall drastically in most places but large parts of the south will still hit the low and high 20s during the afternoon.
Saturday December 2
As we enter the weekend proper the weather will stabilise across Spain and with high pressures predominating, the rain will disappear in most of the country with the exception of the extreme north.
Everywhere else, the day will be rather cloudy but pleasant enough, although daytime temperatures will dip by a couple of degrees along the Mediterranean coast.
Northwest winds will continue to affect the Valencian Community, Balearic Islands and Catalonia, which have been issued with yellow weather alert for gusts.
Sunday December 3
The cloud cover will extend from west to east on Friday morning with probable rainfall in the northwest and plenty of snow on the mountains.
Minimum temperatures will continue to fall in the east of the country and the Canary Islands while the day will also be noticeably cooler in the Mediterranean.
The winds will tens from a westerly or southerly direction, but no weather alerts have been issued.
