ARCHIVED - Wet and windy week ahead: Spain weather outlook October 10-13
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
Several regions in Spain are under weather warnings for gusts and heavy rain this week
This coming week is a sure sign that autumn is upon us, as several communities will be put on alert for heavy rain once more and most of Spain will experience a significant drop in daytime temperatures.
Monday October 10
A small but active Atlantic front will move from west to east on Monday, creating cloudy skies on the Atlantic coast which will spread to the eastern part of the country later in the day. There will be scattered rain and showers in general, more likely in mountainous areas during the afternoon which will be accompanied by locally strong storms in eastern Andalucia, Murcia, the Valencian Community and eastern Castilla-La Mancha.
The maximum temperatures will drop in a large part of the country, although in the northeast and the Balearic Islands they may rise slightly. The mercury will remain in the pleasant mid-20s in the south.
Winds will remain light enough on Monday, tending to be a lot stronger in coastal areas.
Tuesday October 11
The unstable weather will continue into Tuesday in much of the eastern part of the country, with more intense storms forecast in Aragón, the Valencian Community, the Balearics and Catalonia. It will be overcast for the most part.
Daytime temperatures will rise slightly in western and central Spain but will dip in the northeast and along the Mediterranean coast, most noticeably in Cantabria and the north of the Valencian Community.
Breezy once again with a north-westerly wind in Galicia and along the Mediterranean.
Wednesday October 12
Only the Valencian Community remains under a yellow level alert for rain on Wednesday, which is a national holiday in Spain, although it will still be very wet in Murcia, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands during the first half of the day.
Night-time temperatures will drop considerably in most of the country but the thermometers will climb again in the extreme south and along the Mediterranean coast.
Strong winds coming in from the east and north will create a blustery day along the coasts.
Thursday October 13
Things are likely to stabilise somewhat on Thursday and there are currently no weather warnings in place. Nevertheless, showers are still likely, accompanied by occasional storms, particularly in the southeast, Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands. Even these will subside by the late afternoon, though, leaving mostly clear skies for the first time this week.
There will be a slight upswing in temperatures in the north while the nighttime temperatures will remain much the same overall.
A strong easterly wind will result in gusts in the northeast and along the southeast coast, as well as the Balearic Islands.
