ARCHIVED - Wet week in store as Storm Efrain approaches: Spain weather forecast Dec 12-15
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
Most of Spain will experience heavy rain this week while the temperatures remain pleasant
So far Storm Efrain, which is battering other parts of Europe with driving rain and sub-zero temperatures, is only affecting Spain indirectly, but it will make its presence known this week with wet and windy weather on the horizon for almost the entire country. It could be a week of all seasons, with the temperatures fluctuating wildly and some sunny spells breaking through the clouds, but for the most part it will be an unsettled and damp few days.
Monday December 12
A total of 33 provinces across Spain are on yellow alert Monday for rain, wind, snowfall, cold and adverse sea conditions, on a day where cloudy skies will predominate. Galicia in the north has been issued with an orange alert while Aemet warns that parts of the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands can expect very strong gusts later in the afternoon.
In the south the temperatures will rise noticeably, hovering around the low 20s in Murcia and Malaga while the thermometers will continue to register decidedly spring-like numbers in most of the Canary Islands.
Tuesday December 13
The winds will continue to pick up in southern Spain on Tuesday, placing the Region of Murcia, Valencia and Andalucia under yellow alert for dangerous sea conditions. The skies will remain overcast in most of Spain with heavy rain forecast again in the north and along the Atlantic coast. Showers are expected in the rest of the country also, but they will be much weaker.
The pleasant temperatures, both day and night, are expected to continue with the exception of western Andalucia, where the mercury will drop a couple of degrees.
Wednesday December 14
Most of the Mediterranean coast will remain dry on Wednesday but heavy rain and storms are predicted in most of Andalucia and the extreme south and north of the country. Another cloudy and overcast day overall with temperatures climbing in the north of Spain but dipping elsewhere.
Winds from the west and southwest will create adverse sea conditions with Murcia, Andalucia, Castilla-La Mancha, Galicia and the Balearic Islands all under a yellow weather warning.
Thursday December 15
Very few changes are forecast for Thursday, although there are no weather alerts in place for the moment. It’s going to be another largely cloudy day in most of Spain and the rainfall could be heavy again in the extreme north and south, with mostly dry weather forecast in the Mediterranean.
The temperatures will tend to drop across the country, although the Mediterranean coast will remain in the pleasant low 20s.
West or south-westerly winds in most of the country, with strong intervals forecast on the Andalucian coast.
