What will the weather be like at Easter in Murcia?
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
After a few scattered showers early on, the Region of Murcia should be dry and sunny throughout Holy Week
But spring can be unpredictable, and the experts all agree that Easter could indeed start out a little damp. Not to worry though, as any rain arriving in the Region of Murcia will disperse very early on, leaving the way clear for a bright and sunny Holy Week overall.
Easter weather forecast for the Region of Murcia
Holy Week will usher in a period of unusually high temperatures and the mercury is expected to be as much as 3ºC higher than normal for this time of year. According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), there are also signs of “instability” in the weather pattern during the first few days of Semana Santa, which could potentially lead to rain showers.
Speaking at a press conference, Aemet’s territorial delegate in the Region of Murcia, Juan Esteban Palenzuela, warned that predicting long-term forecasts isn’t an exact science, especially when it comes to rain activity. With this in mind, he has cautiously suggested that while temperatures are likely to remain elevated throughout the spring and second quarter of the year, there is currently no clear indicator of what the precipitation patterns will be like.
For the immediate future though, things are a little more set in stone, and looking ahead to the coming week, temperatures are expected to rise, with values
exceeding the average by 3 to 6ºC on the weekend of March 16 and 17. This warming trend is expected to continue into the following week, although with less dramatic temperature increases.
Mr Palenzuela highlighted that there are signs of instability in the weather pattern between Thursday March 21 (the day before the Friday of Sorrows, which marks the beginning of Easter) and the first days of Holy Week. While there is a possibility of rain during this period, the expert stressed that this prediction should be treated with caution, as it’s still quite far away.
Spring Fling
As the Spring Festival kicks into high gear in Murcia capital, the forecast for the week of April 1 to 7 is for another scorcher, with temperatures remaining several degrees above what we’d expect. But again, it’s still too early to tell if it will rain.
As April gives way to May and June, the meteorologist thinks it’s pretty likely that temperatures will continue well above average across the country, and in Murcia specifically, they’ll be somewhere between 1 and 2 degrees higher than usual. As for rain, it’s hard to say at the moment – it could go either way.
Remember, in the Region of Murcia, the mercury has hit 40ºC in the past, so as for 2024, anything could happen.
