Which supermarkets will open in the Region of Murcia on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday?

Many supermarkets and shopping centres in the Region of Murcia will close for a day over Easter
Holy Week is now in full swing in the Region of Murcia but two of the biggest days are yet to come: Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. While Easter is typically more about the parades and masses than shopping, most people will still need to run to the supermarket at some point over the next few days – if only to get in out of the wind and rain!
To make sure you don’t have a wasted trip, we’ve detailed the opening hours of the main stores and supermarkets in the Region of Murcia on Thursday March 28 and Friday March 29.
Shopping centres and large stores
On Maundy Thursday, many businesses in the Region of Murcia will be open to the public, including the shops and restaurants in the Nueva Condomina, Thader and Atalayas shopping centres in Murcia and Parque Almenara in Lorca.
The Espacio Mediterráneo in Cartagena and Dos Mares in San Javier will also operate as normal on March 28.
However, on Good Friday, only the restaurants will be open in the Murcia and Lorca shopping centres, but it will be business as usual throughout Espacio Mediterráneo and Dos Mares.
Other large store, like El Corte Inglés and Ikea, will open their shutters on Thursday but remain closed on Friday.
Supermarkets
Although Mercadona normally closes its doors on holidays, this Easter the supermarket chain will serve customers until 3pm on Thursday March 28 but will close to the public on Good Friday.
Other supermarkets such as Lidl, Carrefour, Aldi, Alcampo, Consum and Dia don’t have a strict policy regarding opening and closing on holidays, so this can vary from town to town.
As a general rule though, most of these chains will be open on Maundy Thursday and closed on Good Friday, although many may shorten their working day.
Upcoming holidays in the Region of Murcia
Once Holy Week is over, there are still quite a few holiday days left on the 2024 Region of Murcia work calendar. It’s worth noting that this year, Murcia Day on June 9 falls on a Sunday, but Monday June 10 will be treated as an ordinary working day.
Wednesday May 1: International Workers’ Day/May Day/Labour Day
Thursday August 15: Feast of the Assumption
Saturday October 12: Spain Day
Friday November 1: Day of All the Saints
Friday December 6: Spanish Constitution Day
Monday December 9: Feast of the Immaculate Conception
