ARCHIVED - Covid cases increase by a further 31 in Murcia Region on Wednesday
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
The region now has 196 active cases
The Murcian Regional Health Authority has published its daily Covid figures for Wednesday 22nd July, which have increased by a further 31 active cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total of active cases up to 196.
Last Wednesday there were 94 cases in the region, so the figure has more than doubled in the last week.
This is being officially reported as an increase of 26, as five hospital staff in Cieza who gave positive tests on Monday have been re-tested and are now recording a negative test result, effectively removing the “outbreak” status from Cieza as there is now only one positive patient.
On Friday the third floor of the hospital was closed after a patient tested positive, and all staff were tested. For some reason which is still not clear, all of the tests came back positive, and as this is a “freak” result the staff were re-tested, This second time all were negative, so a further set of tests were done, five showing positive. Another set of tests 2 days later has now given a negative result, so the five have been removed from the cases lists, thus affecting the official figures for today.
The number of cases relating to the “nocturnal leisure sector” have continued to grow;
The Atalayas leisure zone in Murcia cases now total 62, after 14 new positives were confirmed and the outbreak relating to the Pub Dubai in Totana has now increased to eleven cases.
In addition to the 1637 PCR tests which have yielded the 31 new positives, one set of antibodies was found amongst the 74 rapid tests also undertaken. This particular patient has now recovered fully from the virus, so joins the “cured” list which now sits at 1568 rather than the active cases list.
As a result, there are now 189 people in isolation at home and 16 in hospital, one of whom is in intensive care.
The fatalities count remains unchanged at 151.
National figures will be released later this afternoon, but the Health Minister has already confirmed today that Spain now has 224 outbreaks, 23 more than on Monday.
There is a lot of rubbish being published and shared on social media at the moment, amongst which is a rumour that Spain is on the verge of imposing a further lockdown.
There is no foundation at all for this rumour other than that Spain IS suffering a noticeable rise in case numbers at the moment (see Tuesday figures).
Today the Health Minister, Salvador Illa, continued to insist that the 17 regional health authorities, all of whom have full competencies to manage the situation in their respective regions, are acting "forcefully" and in "coordination" with the Ministry of Health.
"All communities are detecting outbreaks and containing them. They have adequate instruments to control them and, in fact, most of them are controlled, "explained the minister, while calling on society to" not lose respect "for the new coronavirus.
He continues to call for members of the public to wear their masks, respect social distancing and follow the guidelines given to them by their regional health authorities.
In the Murcia Region this has meant an intensifying in the measures designed to combat the outbreaks in the nocturnal leisure section.
In brief; bars and pubs must close their indoor spaces at 22:00. Anyone with an outdoor terrace or outdoor space may continue serving drinks until 02:00 observing strict distancing of tables and ensuring clients are wearing masks. Any venue that does not have outdoor terraces must close at 22:00. All discos are closed as are “nocturnal leisure zones” without outdoor space.
Karaoke and “amateur” dance or singing is prohibited as is the use of dance floors.
Group sizes within public areas are limited to 15 people per group.
