Her boyfriend was arrested at the scene when firefighters broke down the door and discovered the bloody body
The body of a 17-year-old girl has been found dead inside a storage unit in Totana this morning, Wednesday February 9, with multiple stab wounds.
Currently, the main suspect in the fatal stabbing is the girl’s boyfriend, a 19-year-old Spanish man who is only being identified by his initials, J.E.U.O. The man was at the scene of the crime when the officers arrived and also had some cuts on his body.
The case that is being investigated as suspected domestic violence, or gender violence as it is more commonly known in Spain, and which would be the first such crime of the year in the Region of Murcia.
The events took place in storage room number 14 located in the basement of a building on Avenida Rambla Subida a la Santa in Totana at about 3am, where the alleged perpetrator lives with his mother and two younger brothers in a first-floor apartment.
Firefighters were called to the scene to break open the door of the storeroom, and when they managed to do so found the body of the underage girl inside. The victim has been identified as Claudia Abigail, a minor who was recently reported missing by her family.
An autopsy will be carried out by the Institute of Legal Medicine in Murcia, although it seems clear to police that the cause of death will be ruled as the multiple stab wounds that Claudia presented.
The boyfriend, who has been arrested, has no previous convictions for gender violence but he has reportedly already confessed to killing his girlfriend, uttering the words “it was me” when the bloody body of the victim was discovered.
J.E.U.O. is apparently one of the main carers, along with his mother, of his two little brothers. A neighbour spoke highly of the suspect and his family, saying they were all “very formal kids, who go to school and do very well with their studies”.
“I found out about all this at the market, but I thought it was people from other flats, other people,” she said. “This was the last thing I would think of because they are very formal. Nothing, no fights, nothing… All I can say is he is a good person.”
A minute’s silence has been held in Totana’s Plaza de la Constitución at 12 noon today.
