ARCHIVED - 20 tons of emergency medical equipment arrives from China
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
This morning the first plane in a series of scheduled emergency flights from China arrived at Terminal 4 of the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport, loaded with 20 tons of medical equipment.
The flight has been organised by the Grupo Oesía, Iberia Air and the Spanish Federation of Health Technology Companies (Fenin) in collaboration with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation and Finance and Industry, Commerce and Tourism, who have all worked together to facilitate the bureaucratic procedures in order to speed up the delivery of this equipment.
The collaborators have created a Health Air Corridor with China, coordinated through a logistics center, which has started operating today to facilitate the arrival in Spain of sanitary products including respirators, masks, gloves and protective screens, among other products necessary for the containment of the virus and limit its spread.
As well as organising the flights from Shanghai, it has also been necessary to undertake the logistical planning and procedures for transferring the materials to the airports as rapidly as possible and arranging for the aircraft themselves to be converted from passenger use to cargo for the duration of the operation.
At the moment 90 tons of equipment and materials is scheduled to arrive via this route, with weekly flights scheduled, although the principal problem facing the Spanish government is the lack of availability worldwide of the required medical equipment.

What to do if you are in the Region of Murcia and believe you may have contracted the virus
The regional government has set up a special helpline to supply information to members of the public (900 121212) if they suspect that they may have contracted the virus rather than going straight to hospital or to a medical centre.
