Alfred Rodriguez Trio triumph at San Javier Jazz 2023
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
One encore just wasn’t enough for Alfred Rodríguez
Attendees at the second night of the 2023 San Javier Jazz Festival refused to accept that one encore could ever be enough, loudly demanding more, more, more from the impactful and talented pianist Alfred Rodríguez following his first-ever set at the festival.
Jazz pianists can sometimes become so involved in their renditions that they forget the tolerance level of audiences who may not be quite as moved by their performance as themselves, but no such accusation could be levelled at this magnificent artist, who delivered a melodic and thoughtful set which unashamedly entertained, involved and invited the audience to share in a marvellous musical experience.
A native of Havana, Rodríguez comes from a musical family, his father a popular singer, actor and TV presenter in Cuba for decades. After a formal classical training, Rodríguez is deservingly growing in stature as an artist in his own right.
The audience, meanwhile, is already waiting for notice of his next appearance at the festival…
Line-up:
Alfredo Rodríguez: piano and vocals
Michael Olivera: drums
Yarel Hernández: bass
