ARCHIVED - Alicante nursing home closes doors and suspends family visits over Covid outbreak
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
A member of staff has tested positive at La Molineta de Petrer elderly people's home in the Mitja Vinalopo comarca, Alicante province.
Family visits and new admissions have been suspended at a nursing home in Petrer which has "closed its doors" after a member of staff who has been vaccinated tested positive.
So far, only the employee appears to be affected, and has not had any contact with residents, though her colleagues are now being tested while the infected staff member isolates at home.
In these cases, an "open" outbreak is declared even if only one elderly resident or worker tests positive for Covid, and the region's Ministry of Equality and Inclusive Policies' protocol is activated.
However, it doesn't mean that all residents must self isolate, though as a precautionary measure, family visits and new admissions are currently suspended while further tests are carried out.
Medical consultations, however, and visits in the "end-of-life" process are still maintained, depending on what specifics are determined by the protocol and under the authorisation of the centre's management.
Elsewhere in the province, an outbreak with 12 confirmed infections has been detected with a social origin in the Vega Baja municipality, Callosa de Segura,
The town, along with 16 others in the province, are among an additional 45 municipalities in the Valencia region, where a curfew is likely to be imposed from Monday, July 26.
In an attempt to combat a surge in infections across the three provinces, Alicante, Valencia and Castellon, which now have an average 14-day cumulative incident rate of 496 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the regional government is proposing extending mobility restrictions currently in place in 32 towns.
