Saharan dust and muddy rain in the forecast: Alicante weather forecast August 23-27
Showers and thunderstorms could affect parts of Alicante this week as Saharan dust lingers in the air

We are on the home straight towards the end of summer, or at least the intense summer heat. After temperatures and humidity climbed slightly over the weekend, conditions were still fairly manageable across Alicante Province.
That could be about to change, with showers and thunderstorms expected in parts of the province this week. The rain should help to break the humidity, but unfortunately Saharan dust is also lingering in the air, meaning any rain that does fall could bring the famous muddy rain with it.
So, for now, it might be worth holding off on washing the car. Here is the daily breakdown for Alicante Province from Monday August 24 to Thursday, August 27:
Monday August 24
Monday starts with some very different conditions in parts of the province, with dark clouds, light rain and rumbles of thunder already being reported around southern Alicante. AEMET is forecasting cloudy intervals, with cloud building inland from midday and a chance of showers in parts of Alicante Province.
With Saharan dust lingering in the atmosphere, any rain could also be the familiar muddy or dirty rain, potentially leaving cars and outdoor surfaces covered in a layer of dust.
Temperatures will remain warm, reaching 35°C in Orihuela, 33°C in Dénia and Elche, 32°C in Alicante city and 31°C in Alcoy.
Winds will be light and variable, becoming moderate from the south along the coast around midday before turning north-westerly later.
Tuesday August 25
Tuesday should be a quieter day, with mostly clear skies and some cloud, although the Saharan dust is expected to remain in the air.
Temperatures will climb slightly, with highs of 36°C in Orihuela and 35°C in Elche. Alicante city will reach 34°C, while Dénia is forecast to reach 32°C and Alcoy 33°C.
Winds will be moderate from the northwest before turning southeast after lunch.
Wednesday August 26
Wednesday looks like the most unsettled day of the week, particularly along the coast and nearby inland areas.
AEMET is forecasting cloudy intervals with the possibility of rain in some coastal and inland areas. With dust still present in the atmosphere, any showers could once again produce muddy rain.
Temperatures will fall along the coast with highs of 31°C in Alicante city and Elche and 32°C in Dénia. Orihuela will reach 33°C, while Alcoy is forecast to reach 32°C.
Winds will be light and variable, becoming stronger around midday.
Thursday August 27
Thursday will bring a return to warmer conditions, with temperatures rising across most of the province.
There will be cloudy intervals, but AEMET is not currently forecasting significant rainfall for the day. The heat will be most noticeable inland and in the south, with Orihuela reaching 37°C. Elche will reach 34°C, while Dénia and Alcoy are forecast to reach 33°C and Alicante city 32°C.
Winds will be moderate from the west before turning southeast along the coast during the afternoon.
With the weather becoming more changeable as we head towards the end of August, it is worth keeping an eye on the latest forecasts over the coming days. Summer storms can develop quickly, particularly inland, so check for any updates or weather alerts if you are heading out or making plans.
Minimum and maximum temperatures in Alicante this week:

Monday August 24: Min 19; Max 35°C
Tuesday August 25: Min 17; Max 36°C
Wednesday August 26: Min 19; Max 33°C
Thursday August 27: Min 18; Max 37°C
