ARCHIVED - Amazon to open logistical centre alongside Corvera airport

The online sales and distribution giant will be contracting staff in Murcia shortly

The online sales and distribution giant Amazon has confirmed reports in the regional press that it is to open a logistical centre in the Parque del Sureste industrial development which is located alongside the Region of Murcia International Airport in Corvera, occupying a plot of 54,000 square metres.

Further statements have been limited, but it is known that representatives of the company recently visited Corvera and held discussions with representatives of the Town Hall of Murcia and the regional government. It has also been revealed that Amazon already have a licence to build their new premises alongside the A-30 motorway, and that approximately 200 jobs will be created as a direct result of the investment.

On top of that, though, a considerable amount of work will be generated for independent distributors and delivery agents who will be required to distribute the products arriving at Corvera.

Amazon already has seven main centres and eleven logistical plants in Spain, employing 4,800 staff across the country.
