ARCHIVED - December 11 to January 6 Christmas, New Year and Three Kings in Cartagena 2022-23
Music, parades and a vast array of events for children in Cartagena over the festive season
As usual there is a very full program of events going on in Cartagena over the festive season, with plenty of entertainment both in the city and in outlying districts including activities for children and the all-important arrivals of Father Christmas (on December 23) and the Three Kings, whose major parade takes place on the evening of 5th January.
Children’s events are held almost every day in the Plaza de España, and other permanent features of Christmas in Cartagena are as follows:
Legoland Christmas village at the Castillo de la Concepción: over 50,000 pieces of Lego are being used to create the scene, which includes Father Christmas’ home, the gingerbread houses of the elves, a parade of sleighs with the Three Kings and even the home of the Grinch.
Open until January 8 from 10.00 to 17.30, admission 4 euros.
A Christmas Carol, a different version featuring Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy in an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic. The event takes place at 11.45 starting at the panoramic lift on December 11, 18, 24, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31 and January 2, 3 and 4. Admission 15 euros.
Roman Christmas at the Molinete Roman forum museum: An ancient Roman celebration of the fiesta of the Rising of the Invincible Sun, including a sweet dish called “bollito de miel” which was the precursor of the typical Roscón de Reyes. Children can make a clay candle lamp, as they did when Cartagena was the Roman city of Carthago Nova, while adults enjoy a guided tour of the museum area.
The event is held on December 10, 17, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30 at 11.30. Price 12 euros for adults, 6 euros for children.
Happy Saturnalia at the Roman theatre museum: A guided tour and a chance to learn about the Roman feast of Saturnalia. The event is held on December 10, 17, 24, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31 and January 2, 3, 4 and 5 at 11.30. Price 3 euros.
