Music, parades and numerous events for children in Lorca throughout the festive season

Over 70 activities and events have been scheduled by the Town Hall of Lorca during the festive season, many of them taking place in the Plaza de España and the Teatro Guerra.

Children’s fairground attractions are open every day from December 16 to January 5 between 19.00 and 23.00 in the Plaza de Calderón.

Sunday December 11

The official opening of the monumental Town Hall “Belén” (nativity scene) in the Palacio de Guevara, accompanied by music from the Peña La Jarapa.

The Town Band offer their Christmas concert at the church of San Mateo.

Thursday December 15

18.30: Drilo & The Kids Band on stage at the Teatro Guerra, musical entertainment for toddlers. Click here for further information and ticketing details.

Friday December 16

19.00 to 23.00: The children’s fairground attractions open in the Plaza de Calderón for the festive period. Reduced price days are December 19, 21, 26 and 27.

19.30: Music from the band of Zarzadilla de Totana at the church of Virgen de las Huertas.

20.00: Christmas carols with a modern twist in the Plaza de España.

Saturday December 17

19.30: Belter Souls in concert at the Teatro Guerra as the prizes are awarded to the winners in the Enciende Lorca program.

20.30: Live music in the Plaza de España from Los Parrandboleros, Mocedades and Rafael Basurto.

Sunday December 18

10.15: Cycle ride around various of the “Belenes” or nativity scenes on display in Lorca, starting in the Plaza de Calderón.

11.00: A gathering of traditional “cuadrilla” folk dance and music groups in Calle Corredera.

11.30 and 13.00: The Christmas gala of the Nuria Periago dance academy at the Teatro Guerra.

18.00: ¡Cataplum!, children’s theatre in the Plaza de España.

20.00: A baroque concert featuring Vivaldi’s “Gloria” and Händel’s Messiah in the former collegiate church of San Patricio.

Wednesday December 28

18.00: Buscando a Melchor, children’s theatre in the Plaza de España.

19.00: Christmas workshops for children in the Plaza de España.

20.00: Christmas concert by the Bartolomé Pérez Casas choir in the church of San Lázaro.

Thursday December 29

18.00: El Gato con Botas, children’s theatre in the Plaza de España.

19.00: Christmas workshops for children in the Plaza de España.

20.00: The town band and the choirs of Santa Cecilia and Santiago offer a Christmas concert at the Teatro Guerra.

Friday December 30

19.00: Christmas workshops for children in the Plaza de España.

21.00: The Film Symphony Orchestra perform their “Krypton” show at the Auditorio Margarita Lozano.

Saturday December 31

10.00: The traditional “Ciudad de Lorca” San Silvestre running race, starting in the Alameda de La Constitución.

12.00 midday: Children’s New Year grapes in the Plaza de España with fun, music and games.

17.00: Live music in the Plaza de España, featuring Essencial and Sr. Lobo.

Wednesday January 4

11.00: The Royal Postmen take delivery of letters addressed to the Three Kings in the Plaza del Rey Sabio alongside the church of Nuestra Señora de la Virgen de las Huertas, in a regal encampment which is open all day from 11.00.

12.00 to 13.30: The postmen also put in an appearance at the church of San Cristóbal.

17.00 to 18.30: Busy as ever, the royal postmen reappear at the church of Cristo Rey.

Thursday January 5

12.00: The Three Kings, Melchior, Gaspar and Balthasar arrive in Lorca. At midday they make their way through the city to be officially welcomed by the Mayor.

18.00: Having enjoyed their lunch the regal triumvirate embark on the Grand Three Kings Parade. Route: Calle San José, Calle Pérez Casas, Calle Nogalte, San Francisco, Óvalo, Avenida Juan Carlos I. At this point the Kings continue on their own to the Plaza de España via Calle Musso Valiente and Calle Álamo.

Friday January 6

11.00: The traditional Auto de los Reyes Magos play is performed in the village of Zarzadilla de Totana.
