The number of patients being treated in ICUs in the Region has also doubled
Most of the important pandemic indicators have skyrocketed across Spain this week, with many health experts worried that an eighth wave is only just over the horizon. Unfortunately, the Region of Murcia has failed to buck this trend and hospital pressure has risen significantly this week, while intensive care admissions have doubled.
Coronavirus infections
The Region of Murcia has registered a total of 625 cases of coronavirus in the latest update published on Monday October 18, a sizeable dip on the 717 infections reported on the same day last week.
This brings the overall number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 457,978.
Of the total cases, 85,963 have been diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
Cumulative incidence rate
The latest data provided by the regional health authorities on Monday show that the 7-day cumulative incidence rate has taken a welcome dip, dropping from 121.32 cases per 100,000 inhabitants to 116.75. This is an excellent indication that infection numbers should continue to fall in the coming days.
Unfortunately, the more important average incidence over a two-week period has also increased from 225.88 cases to 242.64.
Hospital pressure has also followed the national trend, with the number of patients admitted for Covid in the Region increasing to 54 (18 more compared to the same day last week). Of these, 4 are being treated in ICUs for more serious conditions (up from 2 last Monday).
Six more Covid-related fatalities have been registered, bringing the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 2,457.
Covid testing
The Region of Murcia has carried out 3,183,344 PCR and antigen coronavirus detection tests.
Vaccination data
According to Spanish Ministry of Health data, 94% of the population of the Murcia Region over the age of 12 has had a least one dose. In addition, 93.60% of people are now double jabbed.
