ARCHIVED - Slight upswing in Covid incidence rate: Spain pandemic update Feb 13
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
Despite a minor increase, the health situation remains stable across Spain
The coronavirus pandemic continues to loosen its grip in Spain and the report from Friday February 10 shows that almost every important indicator has decreased in the past seven days. The only exception is the cumulative incidence rate, which has increased by a couple of points this week, but remains at one of the lowest figures of the entire health crisis.
Coronavirus infections
The Ministry of Health registered an additional 8,387 cases of coronavirus on Friday, a good decrease on the 9,043 infections reported on the same day last week.
This brings the total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 13,748,918.
Cumulative incidence rate
There’s been a very slight upswing in the 14-day cumulative rate, which has risen from 50.76 cases per 100,000 inhabitants to 51.61. However, this is still one of the lowest figures of the entire pandemic.
In addition, the 7-day figure, standing at 25.16, is still more than 50% below the two-week rate, an excellent indication that the health situation remains relatively stable.
When it comes to autonomous communities, Aragón has this week taken the top spot from Andalucia (23.37 cases) with an impressively low 23.26 cases per 100,000.
The Canary Islands is currently faring the worst, with 88.12 infections per 100,000 people while the Valencian Community is just a tad above the national average, with 53.70 cases, after dropping a couple of points in the last week.
The highest incidence continues to be recorded in people over the age of 80, with a rate of 100.19 cases this week, followed by those aged between 70 and 79 (46.03) and between 60 and 69 (30.94).
Fatalities and hospitalisations
A further 53 Covid-related fatalities have been reported in the last 7 days, bringing the total number of deaths in Spain up to 118,976.
There are currently 1,880 patients admitted to hospitals across Spain with Covid, compared to 2,056 last Friday. At the moment, 111 people are being treated for more serious conditions in the ICU, which is a considerable reduction of 39.
These figures mean that 1.5% of all hospital beds are occupied by people with a positive diagnosis, while the ICU occupancy rate is at 1.26%
Vaccination data
As of February 13, 92.6% of the population over 12 (39,207,315 people) are double jabbed. In addition, 39,284,166 people over the age of 12, or 92.8% of the population, have received at least one dose.
