Installation of an exercise area begins next to the football pitch on Camposol Sector D
The work to clear the ground ready for the contruction of an exercise area started on Thursday morning (March 30), having been the winning proposal in the recent municipality-wide Budget Participation Competition held by Mazarrón Council. The area will be located next to the football pitch, following hot on the heels of work recently started and nearly completed on the other Camposol Budget proposal for a dog park on Sector A, which was runner-up. This dog friendly facility is situated in the Parque Central (Central Park).
There to witness the commencement of the project were Mazarrón Mayor Gaspar Miras, Councillor for Sport Francisco García, Councillor for Camposol Silvana Buxton, President of the Camposol Business Association Julie Townsend, exercise area proposer Paul Drury and the proposer of the dog park, Nigel Jones.
Sr Miras and Sr García explained that the exercise area would consist of various items of calisthenics equipment that could be used to promote cardio-vascular health, including an abdominal bench, a rowing machine, a waist twist, elliptical exercise apparatus plus a table tennis area and other equipment, with a total budget of 39,923.23 euros + IVA.
Sr García also had a discussion with Julie Townsend about the possibility of using funds left over from the Lions/Leos charity account being used to buy basketball/netball hoops to make the football pitch multifunctional. There was also a conversation about the remaining sport-designated land ajoining the plot and its possible future uses.
Exercise area proposer Paul Drury said he was “very happy the exercise area proposal had been successful”, thanking the Camposol 2025 group and the Camposol Free Community Sports group for seeding the original idea and assisting people with the voting process.
He added, “Although two other proposals for a recycling point on Sector C and the repair of Calle Aljibe failed because they exceeded the competition funding limit, the success of the exercise area and dog park projects represents good investments for Camposol.”
Dog park proposer Nigel Jones said “the original proposal was for the park to be on Sector D, but there was no land with the correct designation available". However, he is very pleased that the project is on the Camposol urbanisation and also thanked the Camposol 2025 group and the Camposol Free Community Sports group for thier support.
Mazarrón Councillor for Camposol Silvana Buxton said, “it is great that the two Camposol proposals won and although there may be other bigger issues on the urbanisation these two projects will be significant and positive additions to the area and will prove useful to residents and visitors to Camposol.”
