One of the women has shared her terrifying story on social media to warn others in the Costa Blanca resort
A Benidorm taxi driver has been hailed a hero after rescuing two women who were allegedly being followed by an unidentified man as they made their way home in the dark.
One of the women, a TikTok user known as Amalia Corralo has shared the terrifying experience in a post on social media which has been liked more than 220,000 times in just four days.
In a video, the 22-year-old heaps praise on her "guardian angel", the taxi driver known only as Juan who she says "saved" both her and another young woman on Sunday evening November 13.
Retelling her harrowing experience, Amalia said she was making her way home and passed Benidorm Hotel in the centre of Rincon de Loix when she sensed she was being followed by a man behind her. She crossed the road a couple of times and looked behind to see if the man, described as dark and bald with an unkempt appearance, was still following her. He was.
"I'm not paranoid, but I started to move to the side of the street and saw that he was doing the same thing," she recalls on the TikTok video.
Scared, Amalia called her mother who told her to find a taxi. She flagged down Juan and explained what had happened. Juan immediately asked for a description so that he could alert the police and drove around looking for the suspect.
At that moment, Amalia says she and Juan spotted a lone woman talking on her phone, unaware she was being followed by the same suspected stalker.
Juan stopped the car and insisted the woman get in before explaining what had happened earlier. He then drove both women home and refused to be paid for the fare.
As well as wanting to thank her "hero" and "guardian angel", Amalia said she has shared her story so that "other people can be alert".
"These things must be told, girls in Benidorm must be attentive," said the 22-year-old, adding that she expected a little more assistance from the police: "When I got home I reported it. I was a little dissatisfied with the fact that when I I called I had to offer them the description of this individual because they didn't ask me. They also told me that if it happened again I should call them again."
There has been no official statement from Benidorm police.
