Five men – a Brit, an Irishman, a Finn, an Iranian and a Moroccan – have been arrested on the Costa del Sol on suspicion of kidnapping an English girl, 16, and a Lithuanian woman, 20, in Marbella.
Police received a call at around 5am on Sunday morning from a female friend of the English girl, who said the teenager had phoned her “crying and distressed” and claiming she was with several men who had weapons, before the line went dead.
When the friend rang her back, she could only hear a man’s voice asking the tearful girl for the pin code to unlock her phone. That’s when she phoned the emergency services for help.
When police arrived at the property in the upmarket resort of Puerto Banús (pictured) near Marbella, they found the 16-year-old English girl naked, wrapped in a blanket and “very frightened” in one of the bedrooms of the house, along with the Lithuanian woman.
Both victims were admitted to hospital after the rescue, while police arrested the male inhabitants of the house after finding a pistol, a machete and a submachine gun.
The rescued girl later told police she had been in a nightclub and had a hazy memory of getting into a car with two men, but could not remember anything else.
One of the arrestees, a 20-year-old British man, is said to have broken his ankle after he jumped from a first-floor window of the property to try to escape police, while one Spanish police officer was injured during a struggle which ended with the arrest of the unnamed Irish youngster and an Iranian suspect.
The Brit who broke his ankle was transferred to hospital, under arrest, while another two men, one Moroccan and one 17-year-old from Finland, were held inside the house.
Police said, “National Police officers have arrested five youngsters including a minor in Marbella for their alleged responsibility in a crime of unlawful detention.
“On arrival at the property, police found two girls who were both minors and arrested five young men, one of them with a broken ankle he sustained after falling from a wall in an attempt to escape.
“Inside the property a pistol and a submachine gun which were later both discovered to be simulated weapons were found, as well as a machete and a knife.”
While earlier reports had suggested the two females had been sexually assaulted by the group, the pair later confirmed in a statement that no sex crimes had been committed.
