Camposol mobile phones simultaneously sound flood warning alert!
Camposol residents and visitors shocked when mobile phones burst into life with warning of flooding
In the wake of the tragic events in Valencia and after experiencing thunder, lightning and torrential rain on Sunday morning (November 3) Camposol residents and visitors to the urbanisation were further shocked when their mobile phones repeatedly burst into life with a siren-like sound and a warning message on the screen.
The Region of Murcia was on an orange alert for storm-force weather on Sunday and the alert proved to be well founded as thunder, lightning and torrential rain beset the Region, including the Camposol urbanisation. Some longstanding residents remembered the events of 2012 when the bridge between Sectors B and C was put out of commission for 6 months and 2014 when the Rambla de los Aznares turned into a torrent causing extensive damage to a section of Sector D of the urbanisation.
But concern started to mount when mobile phones were triggered repeatedly by the Civil Protection Alert system warning the public in vunerable areas of possible danger. One message read:
Translation:
Civil protection alert
National Alert Network - D.G. (Director General) for Citizen Security and Emergencies. The D.G. for Citizen Security and Emergencies warns that due to the flooding of the Rambla de las Moreras, people should not circulate in its vicinity. It also affects the Camposol urbanization.
The Rambla de las Moreras is an extension of the rambla (Dry riverbed) that runs between Sectors B and C of the Camposol urbanisation and was the subject of the previously mentioned bridge outage in 2012.
However, although there was flooding on the bridge approach road from the C sector side at the height of the storm where vehicles had to exercise extreme care driving through the water.
Plus, the rambla itself was at a much higher level than its usual stream like flow.
When the rain subsided the road and bridge remained intact and operational, which will be of great relief to the residents of Sectors C and D.
A few other roads on the urbanisation also turned into mini rivers at the height the downfall but by around 3.30pm the rain had relented and the water receded, with pockets of standing water remaining which should be negociated with care.
After sending inspection crews to assess the situation throughout the municipality, including Camposol, Mazarrón Council have issued a press release stating “Roads that have been closed are the RM-E22, between Cartagena and Isla Plana, the RM-E22, which connects Mazarron and Isla Plana, at kilometre 18, the RM-D4, at the Atalaya Exit, at kilometre 23, the RM-603, the Rambla Yeseras, the RM-607, at kilometre 1.8, the RM-D14 at kilometre 12 and D-6”.
Prompted by recent events in Valencia and Murcia, regional Spanish media have pointed out that the national government authority for river management, the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura (CHS) have failed to move forward with many of the crucial flood prevention measures that have been pending for many years, including the Rambla de las Moreras as well as other high risk areas around the Mar Menor, Puerto Lumbreras and Lorca.
