Registration for classes at the Palacio de los Deportes in Cartagena begins this Wednesday
The swimming pool and sports centre in Cartagena are due to open fully this month, with no coronavirus restrictions except facemasks. The ‘Palacio de los Deportes de Cartagena’ will have 100% capacity and opening times when it is inaugurated at the end of this month. The Palacio de los Deportes is the largest sports facility in Cartagena, and as of Wednesday October 13, the registration period will also be opened for people to begin signing up. A wide range of classes and activities are available from 7am to 11pm from Monday to Saturday. The City Council of Cartagena has been building the sports centre since 2006, although the planning permission was granted way back in 2000. The construction work was mired in problems and setbacks and the centre was eventually closed just six years after it first (partially) opened. Now they have invested a further 340,000 euros to bring it up to scratch and in line with modern safety standards, meaning the total investment for the building has been over 25 million euros.“Once the reports guarantee that it is in perfect condition, we will open the registration period with public prices so that all Cartagena residents can enjoy it,” said Cartagena Mayor Noelia Arroyo.Swimming teams such as Cartagonova-Cartagena, Áncora, the Cartagena hiking centre, the Mandarache Triathlon and Waterpolo Carthago are some of those who will start using and sharing these facilities. At the same time, swimming classes for seniors and aqua-aerobic exercises, while there will also be a prenatal swimming programme and an early stimulation programme for babies for the first time.Image: Ayuntamiento de Cartagena
