ARCHIVED - Covid booster jabs for those vaccinated with single-dose Janssen in Valencia region
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
More than 210,000 people on the Costa Blanca immunised with Janssen can now make appointments for additional dose
People immunised with the Janssen vaccine in the Valencia region can now request a booster dose to optimise protection against Covid at local health centres.
Most mass screening centres have now closed, and the third booster jab will be administered in primary care facilities, with the Department of Health urging people to make advance appointments from this week.
"With the prior appointment we can schedule the vaccination at the centres, avoid crowds and make it easier to continue in parallel with other vaccination processes, such as the flu and booster doses for 'at risk' groups," said Health Minister Ana Barceló.
At the end of October, the National Public Health Commission of the Interterritorial Council agreed to incorporate a booster dose with Pfizer or Moderna vaccines for those people who had been immunised with Janssen.
This was in addition to recommending a third jab to people aged 70 and over, those in high risk groups and elderly residents in nursing homes.
A total of 210,886 people across the region have received the Janssen vaccine. By provinces: 76,873 in Alicante; 36,866 in Castellón; and 97,147 in Valencia.
The booster dose will be administered at least three months after receiving the Janssen vaccine, and can be given simultaneously with the flu vaccine in the case of those aged over 65, people who may suffer complications from the flu or who may pass it on to people at high risk of complications, pregnant women and workers in essential public services.
To make an appointment, call or visit your local health centre or via the GVA+Salut APP or the Health website.
Some 332,301 people in the region have already received a third dose.
First vaccines
"I would like to remind the public that we will continue to vaccinate all those who have not yet been immunised, which represents 10% of the population. It is essential that we continue to increase coverage; for them, their loved ones and for all of us," Barceló went on to say.
Meanhwile, walk-in vaccinations are currently available in Benidorm for anyone who hasn't yet had their first jab, to coincide with the annual Patron Saint Fiestas, and in large shopping centres in Alicante and Elche this weekend.
