ARCHIVED - Covid incidence drops 40 per cent: Murcia update February 21
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
Hospitalisations have been reduced by 30% in the Region of Murcia in the last week
The improvement in the Covid situation in the Region of Murcia is clearly visible in the community’s hospitals, where Covid occupancy has dropped to just 7.04% and is below the national average. In fact, the regional Minister of Health has confirmed that every important pandemic indicator has experienced a significant reduction in the data as of Sunday February 20.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day incidence rate has dropped to 1,075 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a significant drop of 40% in the last seven days alone.
Crucially, the figure at seven days has also plummeted to just 391 cases, a very strong indication that infections should continue to drop in the coming days.
Coronavirus infections
The Ministry reported 180 infections on Sunday February 20, far lower than the 257 recorded on the same day last week.
Of the total number of infections, 55 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 41 to Cartagena, 10 to Lorca, 10 to San Javier, 8 to San Pedro del Pinatar, 6 to Cieza, 6 to Puerto Lumbreras, 4 to Alhama de Murcia, 4 to Torre Pacheco, 4 to La Union. The remaining infections are distributed across the other municipalities.
In the last week, the number of active cases in Murcia has dropped by 2,203 to 12,045 positives.
Hospitalisations
Hospital pressure also indicates that the pandemic is subsiding in the Region, although it only fell slightly over the weekend. There are currently 301 people admitted for coronavirus, two fewer than on Thursday, while 48 are in ICUs, the same.
When the data is compared to Sunday of last week, hospitalised patients overall have been reduced by 30% while ICU pressure has been eased by 28%.
In addition, another 11,744 people are in home isolation after testing positive for Covid – a reduction of 15% this past week.
Fatalities
The Region of Murcia registered three deaths from coronavirus yesterday, bringing the total number of fatalities since the beginning of the pandemic to 2,137. The deceased are two men and a woman aged between 87 and 89 years; two from health area III (Lorca) and one from area VI (Vega Media del Segura).
In the last two weeks, 30 deaths have been recorded in the Region.
