Valencia region's Ministry of Health records 16,364 infections in the last 24 hours
The sixth wave of the pandemic continues to run rampant in the Valencia region with more than 16,000 new positives reported in the latest Ministry of Health update, pushing the 14-day cumulative incidence rate to more than 2,300 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
But whilst health experts assure the symptoms are less severe, there are currently 1,384 hospitalised Covid patients in the region, 204 in ICU, and 25 deaths have been reported since Monday January 10.
Coronavirus cases
The Regional Ministry of Health has reported 16,364 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, down from 29,347 new Covid infections on Monday January 10, although this figure was for the whole weekend. Today's infections bring the total number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic to 758,697.
By province, 2,451 have been recorded in Castellón (86,579 in total); 6,562 in Alicante (274,708), and 7,350 in Valencia (397,408).
There are two unassigned cases.
According to the health data, there are currently 130,712 active cases, which represents 16.97% of the total positives.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 1,384 people admitted to hospital with Covid (10 more than on Monday January 10), 204 of them in ICU (up from 201): 200 in the province of Castellón, 27 in ICU; 484 in the province of Alicante, 69 of them in ICU; and 700 in the province of Valencia, 108 in ICU.
In the last 24 hours, 9,866 patients have been discharged from hospital, meaning 631,182 people have overcome the disease since the start of the pandemic.
By provinces, the discharges are distributed as follows: 70,617 in Castellón, 226,654 in Alicante and 333,855 in Valencia. The total of unassigned registrations remains at 56.
Fatalities
A further 25 Covid-related deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, three more than over the weekend, bringing the overall death toll to 8,244: 928 in the province of Castellón, 3,170 in Alicante and 4,146 in Valencia.
The deceased are 13 women, aged between 54 and 93, and 12 men between the ages of 68 and 95-years-old.
Vaccination data
There has been no update with regards to vaccinations, but as of Friday January 7, a total of 9,784,304 coronavirus vaccines had been administered.
