Cádiz continues to attract luxury cruises in 2025: 351 stops in port planned for this year

Over half of the total number of cruises this year have been from premium and deluxe cruise lines

The number of luxury cruise ships that have stopped in Cádiz rose last year to account for 51% of the total number of tourist boats to the city.

Luxury cruises are usually defined by the amount of purchasing power of the guests staying on board, and the number of people who are staying on the cruise ship.

The number of luxury ships has been increasing over the last few years for various reasons. One such reason is that large shipping companies have opted to buy or build luxury ships for a segment of clientele that does not want queues or to be constantly around a large number of fellow passengers.

These ships usually have a butler service and offer private pools, gyms and luxury restaurants for their passengers. Furthermore, the economic impact of this type of cruise is particularly significant in Spain and its costal cities where they rely on tourist money.

According to the latest study carried out by the Andalusian Government on cruise tourism in the region, the average expenditure per cruise passenger a day in a port of call is set at 40.6 euros.

This spending by the passengers makes the stopping of the cruises to be of the utmost importance to the local economy. The overall expenditure of visitors in Cádiz has been estimated at 28 million euros in 2024.

Furthermore, the workers on the cruises usually spend even more than the cruise passengers themselves, since they usually travel for months with very little free time and very few opportunities to set foot on land.

The port of Cádiz currently has 351 cruise ship stops planned for 2025. Of these, luxury mini cruise ship Belle de Cadix will make around 45 stops over the course of the year.

In total, the Port Authority of the Bay of Cádiz (APBC) would be facing a new historic figure of 396 calls, which is 63 more than in 2024. Moreover, in 2025 Cádiz will receive for the first time the Icon of the Seas, which is considered the largest ship in the world and measures 364 metres.

One of the biggest ships to look out for is when the Disney Fantasy ship comes to stop for the first time in Cádiz on May 15.
