ARCHIVED - Dry Easter weekend with temperatures hitting 30 degrees: Murcia weather April 6-9
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
The mercury will take a huge upswing in the Region of Murcia this weekend with virtually no rain in sight
The rains that threatened earlier in the week won’t spoil the Semana Santa processions in the Region of Murcia, since the lingering storm has moved south towards Morocco, leaving predictions of a dry, bright and exceptionally warm weekend. Any precipitation between now and Easter Sunday has been “almost ruled out” by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) and although the mercury won’t reach the lofty heights of the past couple of weeks, the thermometers will still tip 30ºC in many areas.
The trend of sunny but rather cool days that we’ve been experiencing this week will likely carry on until Friday, and the temperatures on Holy Thursday, April 6, will be typical for this time of year. In fact, the mercury could even dip a bit lower in coastal areas, due to an easterly breeze creating a wind chill, particularly in the shade.
Thursday will be slightly cloudy with overcast intervals in the morning together with early mists in the north of the Region.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Thursday
Caravaca de la Cruz: minimum 2ºC; maximum 21ºC
Cartagena: 11ºC; 20ºC
Lorca: 6ºC; 22ºC
Murcia: 8ºC; 22ºC
Yecla: 2ºC; 19ºC
Good Friday, April 7, will begin rather cool but the temperatures will begin to rise in the afternoon, more notably inland. The day will be mostly clear and bright and although the easterly winds will persist, more intense along the coast, the breeze will die down in the evening.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Friday
Caravaca de la Cruz: minimum 5ºC; maximum 23ºC
Cartagena: 12ºC; 20ºC
Lorca: 7ºC; 23ºC
Murcia: 8ºC; 24ºC
Yecla: 5ºC; 22ºC
The big change to the weather will begin on Saturday April 8, when the wind will be much weaker and the thermometers will reach 29ºC in several municipalities, although the evening will remain chilly.
Aside from some low morning clouds in the Campo de Cartagena, Easter Saturday will be sunny and pleasant without a drop of rain.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Saturday
Caravaca de la Cruz: minimum 7ºC; maximum 28ºC
Cartagena: 10ºC; 21ºC
Lorca: 8ºC; 27ºC
Murcia: 8ºC; 29ºC
Yecla: 5ºC; 28ºC
The mercury will climb towards summer values once more just in time for the big day, Easter Sunday, April 9, with highs of 30ºC forecast in many areas, while the night will also be much warmer than on previous days. The Campo de Cartagena will have an overcast start again and the clouds will increase in the northern mountains of the Region.
For the rest of Murcia, Sunday will be mostly clear or slightly cloudy and any easterly winds that gust earlier on will weaken towards the afternoon.
