Man hospitalised after being rescued on New Year's Eve from a swimming pool in Condado de Alhama Golf Resort
061 Emergency and Health Services were called to Condado de Alhama Golf Resort on December 31 when a 45-year-old man was reported to have fallen in to a swimming pool and had to be attended to by emergency services personnel.
When emergency services personnel arrived the male was found to be in a very serious condition and was in cardiorespiratory arrest. After treatment at the scene the man was transferred to hospital.
The other occupants of the house rescued the patient from the pool and alerted the emergency services and subsequently, after being attended to by the 061 health workers, he was transferred to the Reina Sofía hospital in Murcia, where he was admitted in a very serious condition.
920 incidents in the Region
The incident in Condado de Alhama was one of the most serious call outs attended by the Emergency Coordination Centre. In total, between 9pm New Year's Eve and 9am New Year's Day 920 incidents were reported out of a total of 1,401 calls, 6 percent more than last year, as reported by the 112 Emergency Service. This is almost 50 percent more than on an "ordinary" day (between 9 p.m. on December 28 and 12 p.m. on the 29th). Most calls emanated from Murcia, with 343 incidents, and Cartagena, with 105.
In general, the most numerous incidents on New Year's Eve were those related to public safety (145) followed by medical consultations (102), both with almost identical figures to the previous year. Healthcare workers attended to 32 poisonings (one more than last year) and 43 noise complaints have been received. 15 traffic accidents have been dealt with, of which 5 resulted in injuries.
Among the serious incidents, in addition to the one that occurred in Condado de Alhama, is the death of a 73-year-old man in Cartagena and a traffic accident in Beniaján.
In the first, which occurred at 10.40pm, the 061 health workers were unable to save the life of a 73-year-old man who died after falling down the stairs of his home in the Los Mateos neighbourhood of Cartagena. The 1-1-2 received a call from his wife, local police patrols and an ambulance with 061 medics were sent to the scene but on arrival the man had already died.
Later, at 07.32 a.m., the 061 health workers attended to four injured, apparently not seriously, in a traffic accident between two cars, which occurred at this time on the RM-F7 road, in Beniaján (Murcia). Two of the injured required transfer to hospital. Firefighters from the Fire Extinguishing and Rescue Service of the City of Murcia and Local Police also intervened in this emergency.
