Free lateral flow tests and first vaccine doses at mobile units across Murcia

In order to try and detect Covid cases early in the Region of Murcia over the Christmas period, the Murcian Health Service will install 26 mobile units in 31 municipalities in the Region to carry out mass screenings, including Alhama, Águilas and Lorca.

In addition to free lateral flow testing, first doses of the vaccine will also be offered to those over the age of 12 who have not yet had their first shot. At present, there are still 95,000 people in the Region of Murcia who have not yet received any dose of the Covid vaccine.

The screening will take place on December 23 and 30 to help detect new positives in the run-up to Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve celebrations, as traditional family gatherings can be a major source of infection now that the sixth wave is already wreaking havoc in the Region of Murcia.

Specifically, the mobile units will be installed over these two days in a total of 20 municipalities in the Region, while the remaining 6 units will alternate in different locations in the Community to cover a greater amount of territory. The opening hours will be from 4.30pm to 9pm.

Pending confirmation of some of the locations by the Murcian Health Service, these are the planned locations for the screenings:

Alhama de Murcia: Jardín de los Patos
Alcantarilla: Adolfo Suarez Square
Mula: Cristóbal Gabarrón Park
Cartagena: Héroes de Cavite Square, next to the Town Hall
Mazarrón: Plaza del Convento
Águilas: Town Hall/Plaza de España
Lorca: Alameda de la Constitución
Totana: Plaza Balsa Vieja
Cieza: Plaza de España
Puerto Lumbreras: C/Vicente Ruiz Llamas (former Sagrado Corazón school)
Caravaca de la Cruz: to be confirmed
Cehegín: Plaza del Alpargatero
Jumilla: Abastos Market car park
Yecla: Plaza de España (next to the Basílica de la Purísima)
Archena: Business incubator (next to the Mercado de Abastos)
Molina de Segura: Paseo Rosales
San Javier: Town Hall Square
Torre Pacheco: Pedro Jiménez Square. (New Town Hall)
Las Torres de Cotillas: Town Hall/Plaza Adolfo Suárez

Early testing systems and increased rollout of the vaccination programme is essential in Murcia as most of these muncipalities are now on Risk Level 4 – Very High Risk, with the corresponding restrictions on bars, restaurants and more.
