Guardia Civil dismantles horrific farm with dead animals in Alicante

Those responsible for the farm have been charged after four dead horses were found

Four dead horses and countless other animals have been found in a terrifying state in a farm in the province of Alicante. The Guardia Civil discovered the horror farm in Medio Vinalopó and have charged those responsible for crimes related to animal abuse.

The intervention comes as part of the initiative in the area to protect the welfare and the rights of animals. The owners that are being charged are a 50-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman. Their actions have led to the death of four horses that have died due to their neglect and the state of abandonment in which they were discovered.

The Spanish couple face prison sentences of 3 to 18 months, a fine of 6 to 12 months and a special disqualification of 1 to 3 years from carrying out activities related to animals and from their ownership.

The investigation into the farm began in November when agents from the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) of Monóvar received information, thanks to citizen collaboration, about a farm located in the town of La Romana where animals were found in deplorable conditions and some had already died.

The agents then located the farm and verified the reports of the citizens. After which, the Guardia Civil carried out discreet surveillance that confirmed the presence of abandoned starving animals.

With the collaboration of a veterinarian, an inspection of the farm was carried out. During the inspection, the agents found the corpses of two horses covered with plastic and two others that were in an advanced state of decomposition.

Moreover, the horror farm also housed three live horses, four goats and five dogs of potentially dangerous breeds. All of the animals were in unsanitary conditions and the dogs did not have the correct documentation.

Veterinary reports determined that one of the live horses had to be euthanised due to its critical condition, while the rest of the animals were relocated to another farm to safeguard their lives and ensure their well-being.

Finally, the Guardia Civil’s command has stressed that this action demonstrates a commitment to the application of regulations that safeguard animal welfare, as well as the importance of citizen cooperation in detecting and reporting these types of cases.
