Morning and evening visits for children and adults at the main historical sites of Cartagena

The Cartagena Puerto de Culturas organization is holding an extremely wider range of guided tours and activities during September as the city builds up to the annual Carthagineses y Romanos fiestas at the end of the month:

Audioguide tour in Spanish or English, available every day

Museo del Teatro Romano y Museo del Foro Romano, route: Museo del Teatro Romano, Calle del Aire, Plaza San Francisco, Museo Foro Romano Molinete, Calle Mayor, Museo Naval, port, Plaza del Ayuntamiento and back to the Museo del Teatro Romano.

Duration: approximately 2 and a half hours

Price: 15 euros (including entry to both sites)

Virtual tour with Tablet, available every day

Museo del Foro Romano Molinete, VR allows you to walk through the Roman forum of Carthago Nova as the ruins come to live and return to their original uses.

Duration: approximately 1 hour

10,000 Seconds Under the Sea, a family activity in which Captain Nemo has an impossible dream: to unravel the brilliant mind of Isaac Peral (who is credited with inventing the electricity-powered submarine) and his secret. A blend of science and fiction set in the depths of the ocean, ending with a boat trip in the bay!

September 5, 12, 19 and 26

La Primera Sirenita, a children’s musical in which a powerful mermaid protects the city against any foe who passes the lighthouses. Together with her crab friend she has always kept the peace until a mysterious ship arrives from the East, carrying a young man seeking refuge and blissfully unaware of the legends and curses which lie under the water in Cartagena.

Venue: Tourist boat and the Fuerte de Navidad

Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays

El Secreto de Peral y los Planes Perdidos, another family activity in which a letter is found after being sent by Isaac Peral to a close relative, asking them to ensure that an unspecified item does not fall into the wrong hands. Investigators believe the letter included a missing piece without which his submarine won’t work…

Venue: Casa Museo de Isaac Peral.

Saturdays

Escipión Versus Aníbal, Scipio versus Hannibal. A family tour which takes us back to the Second Punic War and the battle for Cartagena between the Carthaginians and the invading Romans, with children forming part of a triumphant legion and celebrating in the Roman Theatre!

Saturdays

Cartagineses y Romanos, a route along which the epic story of the conflict between Carthaginians and Romans is narrated, with Cartagena being the scene of one of the decisive battles between the two most powerful civilizations of the Mediterranean. Included is the wall from which Hannibal set out for Rome, an ancient home in which the process of Romanization can be seen and the magnificent Roman Theatre.

Route: Casa de la Fortuna, Augusteum, Museo del Teatro Romano.

Time: 10.30

Price: 16 euros (14 euros reduced) for those who are not members of Club Cartagena Puerto de Culturas.

Sundays

Cartagena Romana y Mediterránea, a guided tour including the museums of the Roman Theatre and the Roman Forum, to see the cultural and archaeological legacy and understand the importance of the sea via a trip on the tourist boat.

Route: Museo del Teatro Romano, Museo del Foro Romano Molinete, tourist boat

Time: 10.30 (tourist boat at 16.30)

Sundays

Del Teatro a la Domus del Pórtico, a guided tour starting at the Roman Theatre and heading for the Callejón de la Soledad, location of the Domus del Pórtico.

Price 7 euros.

September 19 and 26

El Teatro Bajo la Luz de la Luna, a guided evening tour by moonlight, illuminating (weather permitting) the theatre of the Roman city of Carthago Nova. The tour includes the theatre museum before participants emerge into the theatre itself.

Time: 21.00

Price: 12 euros for those who are not members of Club Cartagena Puerto de Culturas.

September 5 and 12

Aulaeum, Abajo el Telón, a dramatized evening tour featuring the great Roman architect Vitruvius explaining the structure and design of the theatre which was built on the orders of the Emperor Augustine. At the end of the visit there is a surprise with the appearance of the large stand of the Roman Theatre, where those joining the tour become the audience at a short Greco-Roman Play.
