ARCHIVED - Hospital admissions in the Region skyrocket: Murcia Covid update Jan 10
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
The number of patients hospitalised in the Region has shot up by 14 in the last week
After weeks of stability, the latest report from the health authorities in the Region of Murcia published on Monday January 9 has shown a shocking increase in the number of people hospitalised as a result of coronavirus. Intensive care admissions have jumped slightly in the last few days too, despite the fact that there has been no real change in the number of daily infections being registered.
More worrying still is the fact that the incidence rate has grown by 18 points and now far surpassed the overall average in Spain.
Coronavirus infections
The Region of Murcia has registered a total of 379 cases of coronavirus in the latest update, a tiny drop on the 384 infections recorded a week ago.
This brings the overall number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 463,849.
Of the total cases, 90,668 have been diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
Cumulative incidence rate
The worrying data begins with the 14-day cumulative incidence rate, which has shot up from 122.54 cases per 100,000 inhabitants to 140.53 in the last week. Another concern is the corresponding 7-day figure, which has now reached 72.55 cases and strongly indicates that cases will continue to rise in the coming days.
Hospital pressure has increased considerably with 60 patients currently admitted for Covid (an increase of 14 since last Monday), 5 of whom are being treated for more serious symptoms in the Region’s ICU (an increase of 3).
Six additional Covid-related fatalities have been registered, bringing the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 2,502.
Covid testing
The Region of Murcia has carried out 3,260,941 PCR and antigen coronavirus detection tests.
Vaccination data
According to Spanish Ministry of Health data, 94% of the population of the Murcia Region over the age of 12 has had a least one dose. In addition, 93.60% of people are now double jabbed.
