The number of active Covid cases in Alicante province and the rest of the region plummets 500 in four days
With the exception of the number of crtiically ill patients in ICU, which has risen slightly since the last update on Friday, March 18, all other indicators continue to move in the right direction.
In fact, the Valencia region has bucked the national trend with a steady drop in the 14-day cumulative incidence as opposed to a rebound, and it now stands at 266.4 cases per 100,000, well below the national average of 445.8.
Coronavirus cases
The regional Ministry of Health has reported 3,655 new cases since the last update on Friday March 18 when 3,925 new infections were reported (over a three day period). This brings the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,327,866 people.
By province: 347 have been reported in Castellón 159,026 in total), 1,543 in Alicante (462,849) and 1,765 in Valencia (705,988). The number of unassigned cases has fallen to three.
According to the health data, there are currently 15,110 active cases, down from 15,636 on Friday, which represents 1.13% of the total positives.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 476 people admitted to hospital with Covid, down from 484, 44 of them in ICU (five more than on Friday): 65 in the province of Castellón, 2 in the ICU; 149 in the province of Alicante, 19 of them in ICU; and 262 in the province of Valencia, 23 in ICU.
4,173 people have overcome the virus since the last update, which means the total number of recoveries since the start of the pandemic now stands at 1,315,057.
By provinces, the recoveries are distributed as follows: 158,033 registered in Castellón, 457,298 in Alicante and 699,668 in Valencia. The number of unassigned cases stands at 59.
Fatalities
Eight Covid-related deaths have been reported since the last update. All of the deaths occurred in the last seven days with the exception of two in February, and bring the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis in the Valencia region to 9,140: 1,056 have been recorded in the province of Castellón, 3,483 in Alicante and 4,601 in Valencia.
The deceased are four women aged between 61 and 93-years-old and four men aged between 71 and 89.
