ARCHIVED - Incidence rate at highest point in two months: Andalusia Covid update November 22
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
The incidence rate in Andalucía now stands at 71, which is a whopping 26.5 points more than a week ago
14-day incidence rate in Andalucía since March 2020
The number of new infections and the cumulative incidence rate both continue to climb as the Andalucía region finds itself backsliding in terms of Covid-19. this has prompted the Minister of Health to call for under-12s to be vaccinated.
New infections
Andalucía recorded a total of 782 cases of coronavirus infection in 48 hours on Monday 22 November, while there were 741 cases on Saturday. These figures for this weekend are much higher than the 338 new cases that were reported this time last week.
The 782 infections on Sunday and Monday and the 741 on Saturday follow 718 on Friday, 737 on Thursday, 564 on Wednesday, 487 on Tuesday and 338 on Monday.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day cumulative incidence rate for Andalucía stands at 71 cases per 100,000 inhabitants – the highest since September 20 when it was up to 72.9. This is 5.3 points more than Saturday (65.7) and a shocking 26.5 points more than last Monday.
Hospitalisations
The hospitalisation rates are remaining steady in Andalucía as, looking at the sum of the last seven days, 85 people were admitted to hospital with coronavirus, of which five went to the ICU.
Deaths
Six people died of Covid-19 over the weekend – four on Saturday and two on Sunday and Monday.
Recovered
Another 500 people managed to get better from Covid over the weekend, making the total number of people who have recovered since the pandemic started 794,624.
Vaccinations
The Andalusian Regional Ministry of Health and Families has begun administering the third dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine to more than 43,554 health workers and to those aged between 60 and 69, which until now has been limited to those over 70 years of age.
Meanwhile, Minister of Health and Families, Jesús Aguirre, has said he considers it “urgent” to vaccinate children under the age of 12, especially to protect the elderly with whom they have contact.
Speaking to journalists in Córdoba, Aguirre explained that in Andalucía, after the 30 to 45 age group, the under-12s are the group with the “highest cumulative incidence, with around 70” cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last two weeks, which is why in this case “vaccination is urgent”. This is not so much because children are at risk of suffering more from the disease, but rather because the more vaccinated people there are in Andalucía, the “lower the capacity of the virus to spread”.
