1,164 new cases recorded in the region, including Alicante province, the highest figure since the end of August
New Covid cases shot up to 1,164 over the weekend in the Valencian region, the highest figure recorded since August 30, when 1,733 positives were reported, according to the Ministry of Health.
A further 1,164 new cases have been reported in the last 24 hours following the weekend, up from 849 cases reported last Friday, bringing the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 520,338 people. By province: 239 in Castellón (55,658 in total); 339 in Alicante (190,621) and 586 in Valencia (274,058).
Recoveries
624 people have recovered from Covid since the last update, meaning that to date, 519,547 people in the Valencian region have overcome the virus. By province: 55,311 in Castellón; 190,022 in Alicante; and 274,158 in Valencia. There remain 56 unassigned recoveries.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 238 people admitted to hospitals in the three provinces, up from 214 on Friday with the largest increase in Valencia, 46 of whom are being treated in ICUs (seven more): 57 in the province of Castellón, nine in the ICU; 85 in the province of Alicante, 24 in the ICU; and 96 in the province of Valencia, 13 of them in the ICU.
Fatalities
There has been one reported deaths which occurred in the last seven days. The Ministry of Health has confirmed the victim was aged 93 from Castellón. The fatality means the total now stands at 7,875 since the start of the pandemic: 863 of these deaths have been recorded in Castellón; 3,024 in Alicante; and 3,988 in the province of Valencia.
Vaccinations
There has been no vaccination update, but as of Friday a total of 4,082,801 people had received one dose of vaccine, and 4,048,266 people were fully immunised with two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca, or the single-dose Janssen.
Active cases
According to the latest data, there are currently 4,360 active cases – a sharp rise from the 3,821 cases in the community on Friday – which represents 0.82% of the total positives.
Outbreaks
Since the last update there have been no reported outbreaks with 10 or more associated cases.
