The fiesta, organised jointly by Teulada Town Hall and various local groups, will include performances, a pine bonfire and the blessing of animals
The final preparations are underway as Teulada gears up for its annual San Antón festival that takes place next weekend, January 27 and 28.
The fiesta brings together the whole town for two days of performances, including a parade and a bonfire, culminating in the blessing of pets in honour of the patron saint of animals.
As in previous years, the festival has been organised by Teulada Town Council's Fiestas Department in collaboration with the Alejandro Morell Traginers Association, the El Falçó Colla Association, Teulada 2023 Sant Vicent Ferrer Fiestas Commission, the Grup de Danses Font Santa de Teulada dance group and the La Mediterránea Drum Band.
Festivities kick off on Friday January 27 at 6pm with the pine procession from Santa Catalina Avenue to the Town Hall Square where the bonfire will be lit.
On Saturday January 27, at 8.30am, the 'despertà' – the traditional noisy wake-up call – will be performed by the Alejandro Morell Traginers Association, the Sant Vicent Ferrer de Teulada 2023 fiestas commission and the 'Pren-li foc a la metxa' Association.
This will be followed at 12 noon by a gathering of carts and animals in the Town Hall square. They will parade with the Colla El Falçó and the Alejandro Morell Traginers' Association to Plaza La Creu where a priest will carry out the animal blessing ceremony at 1pm.
At 5.30pm on Saturday, a 'Caretes de Dimonis' (creating demonic costumes) will take place in the Town Hall square. Afterwards, at 6pm, everyone who takes part will receive a popular and traditional chocolate-based snack.
The Grup de Danses Font Santa de Teulada (dance group) will perform at 6.30pm and at 7.30pm, the burning of the bonfire will take place.
To round off the celebrations, the Teulada 2023 Sant Vicent Ferrer Fiestas Commission has organised an evening of live music from 8pm, followed by a disco by DJ Sergio Pérez.
"This historic festival of San Antón is a gathering in which we not only celebrate the protection of our animals, but also maintain a popular tradition inherent to the roots of our municipality," said Councillor for Fiestas, Rosana Caselles.
