The Andalucía port city welcomed its single biggest cruise ship in terms of passenger numbers this week
The port of Málaga witnessed a historic event this Tuesday, July 30, as the cruise ship AIDAcosma made its third visit, bringing with it a record-breaking 6,859 tourists.
This remarkable figure surpasses the previous record of 6,533 tourists, making AIDAcosma the largest cruise ship arrival in the port’s history.
The 337-metre-long vessel, currently on a 14-day journey starting and ending in Palma de Mallorca, docked for 11 hours at the north quay of the Levante maritime station.
Constructed in the German Meyer shipyards in 2021, the AIDAcosma is one of nine colossal units in its series, each surpassing 180,000 gross tons.
Managed by Pérez y Cía, this ship represents a significant feat of engineering and luxury, with a construction cost of 680 million euros. The ship is equipped with dual engines that use liquefied natural gas, and can reach a maximum speed of 31 kilometres per hour.
It boasts 20 decks, 11 of which accommodate 2,732 cabins across 21 categories, enabling it to house nearly 7,000 passengers at full capacity.
The AIDAcosma is more than just a large vessel; it offers an array of amenities designed for ultimate passenger comfort and entertainment. The ship features spa areas covering 3,545 square metres, 15 swimming pools, 17 restaurants, three party rooms, 17 bars and clubs, and a commercial area of 1,098 square metres.
Sailing under the Italian flag for the Aida Cruises company, it caters exclusively to the German tourist market. Its distinctive design includes red lips on the hull and eyes on the sides, evoking the look of seine boats.
Since its debut visit to Málaga on April 20, 2022, followed by a second call in November 2023, the AIDAcosma has established a notable presence in the Andalusian port.
Its third visit not only set a new passenger record but also marked an extraordinary day for the port of Málaga. The ship surpassed the previous record set by its twin sister, AIDAnova, in April 2019.
Alongside the 6,859 tourists, AIDAcosma brought 1,420 crew members, coinciding with the arrival of its sibling, AIDAstella, which carried an additional 2,648 passengers.
