ARCHIVED - Mammoth Fogueres de Sant Joan fiestas returns to Javea: June 9-24
The streets of the Marina Alta town in Alicante province will be bustling with colourful parades and music next month
Javea's traditional and much-loved Fogueres de Sant Joan (Bonfires of Sant Joan) fiestas will return to the streets next month with a packed programme of events kicking off on June 9.
For 15 days, the streets will be alive with colourful parades, various activities and music.
The full San Juan 2022 fiestas programme is as follows:
Thursday June 9
5pm: Blood Donation at Javea Health Centre.
Friday June 10
9.30pm: Parade of the Youth Committee, Children's Court of Honour and the Queens 2020 from Plaza de lglésia to Plaza de la Constitución.
10pm: Proclamation of the Court of Honour, Ladies and Queens in the Plaza de la Constitución followed by a performance by 'Histeria' and a disco until 4am.
Saturday June 11
10am to 6pm: Proclamation of the Queen 2021 in Avenida Palmela car park.
10.30pm: Parade of the Quintà 2021 from Plaza de Iglésia to Plaza de la Constitución.
11pm: Proclamation of the Court of Honour, Ladies and Queen in the Plaça de la Constitució followed by a performance from the Mónaco Orchestra until 5am.
Sunday June 12
9.30am: 18th Table Tennis Open in the Palau d'Esports.
9.30pm: Parade of La Quintà 2022 from Plaza de Iglésia to Plaza de la Constitución.
10pm: Proclamation of the Court of Honour, Ladies and Queen in the Plaza de la Constitución followed by a performance by the Matrix Orchestra until 4am.
Monday June 13
2pm: Official opening of the 'Penyes Santjoaneres' float processions.
8pm: Parade of the Court of Honour, Ladies and Queens from Plaza Marina Alta to Plaza de lglésia.
Midnight: The Queens will sing to the images of Sant Joan followed by DJ Juanjo García in the Plaza de la Constitución until 4am.
Tuesday June 14
7pm: Bulls from Ramadería Crespo de Pedreguer and Ramadería Cali de Moixent will enter the bul arena for the first evening of competition
Midnight: Bull exhibition in the arena followed by a disco until 4am.
Wednesday June 15
6.30pm: Display of six carretones embolados (bullfighting trolleys) created by Arte Mediterráneo.
7.30pm: Second evening of bull competition at the enclosure.
10pm: Theatre performance in the Plaza de lglésia.
10pm: Paella competition in the bullring followed by a disco until 4am.
Thursday June 16
7pm: Third evening of bull competition at the arena.
10pm: Concert by the Colla Portitxol in the Plaza de lglésia.
11pm: Bull Grand Prix followed by a disco until 4am.
Friday June 17
12 noon: Traditional 'Bar on Bar' event starting at Plzça de la Constitución followed by music in the bullring.
7pm: Fourth evening of the bull and cow competition.
11pm: Equestrian show 'Magos de la equitación' by the Escuela de Equitación El Centauro SL from Tudela del Duero in Valladolid.
Midnight: Concert by the group 'Toxic' in Calle Pastores.
Midnight: Disco in the bullring until 4am.
Saturday June 18
8am: Parade through the streets of the Old Town.
10am: BBQ lunch prepared by the Fogueres Commission in the bullfighting arena.
12 noon: Parade of Quintadas from the Placeta del Convent to the bullring where there will be water games.
11.45pm: Performance by the Tokio Orchestra.
Saturday June 19
10am: Children's day in the town centre.
11am: Exhibition by local stud farms followed by an award ceremony in the bullring with includes children's inflatables until 2pm
2pm: Giant Paella for everyone in Montaner Park.
6pm: Water parade will leave Plaza de la Constitución and make its way to the bull arena where there will be more displays.
11pm: Rock concert at the bullring.
Monday June 20
12 noon: Informal parade of the Youth Commission, Children's Court of Honour and the Quintà 2020, 2021 and 2022 through the Old Town.
7pm: Festeros parade along the port and Arenal sectors.
Tuesday June 21
12 noon: Festeros parade in the Thiviers and Frechinal areas.
2.30pm: Giant tortilla and beer tasting offered by the Fogueres Commission in Montaner Park.
7.30pm: First day of the Offering of flowers to San Juan in the Plaza de la Iglesia.
Midnight: Disco in in the Plaza de la Constitución.
Wednesday June 22
12.30pm: Parade of the Court of Honour, Ladies and Queens in the decorated streets of the Historic Centre.
7.30pm: Second day of the Offering of flowers to San Juan in the Plaza de la Iglesia.
11.30pm: Performance by the Titanic Orchestra until 4am.
Thursday June 23
8am: Procession through the Old Town.
11.30am: Offering of Raïm i bacores to San Juan and parade.
6.30pm: Parade of the Quintadas and bands from the Plaza de la Constitución to Avenida del Plà.
7pm: First day of the Cavalcade of Floats.
9pm: Children's bonfire night in Calle Virgen de la Soledad and Jesús Nazareno.
11.30pm: Traditional Nit de Focs de Sant Joan, (bonfire night) declared a festival of local tourist interest in the Valencian Community, organised by the Fogueres Commission followed by theatre and music.
Friday June 24
10am: Parade through the Old Town followed by a mass in honour of Sant Joan in Plaza de Xàtiva. There will be a second mass at 12 noon in the Parish Church of San Bartolomé
6.30pm. Music in Plaza de la Constitución.
7pm: Parade of the Quintadas 2020, 2021 and 2022 from Plaza de la Constitución.
Midnight: Pyromusical fireworks display in the Plaza de la Constitución followed by music.
