ARCHIVED - March 12 to 27 Fiestas of San Jose in Puerto de Mazarron
Concerts, medieval market, funfair and a tapas route to celebrate the return of the Fiestas of San José to Puerto de Mazarrón
After a hiatus of two years due to the coronavirus pandemic the Fiestas in honour of San José in Puerto de Mazarrón are once again being held in 2022, with a full program including concerts, a fairground, a medieval market and a tapas route.
The main focal point of the fiestas is Saturday March 19, the feast day of San José (and Fathers’ Day in Spain), when a large “falla” (papier mâché figure) will be ceremonially burnt at the fairground at the beach of El Rihuete at 23.00. Earlier on the same day there is a chance to attend a concert given by Rasel in the Puerto Deportivo (the marina).
The marquee at the Playa del Rihuete will also be hosting a medieval market and fairground attractions, while the tapas route lasts from March 12 to 27.
The full program of events includes the following:
Saturday March 12
The tapas route begins with a total of 10 bars and restaurants taking part within their normal opening hours.
Sunday March 13
19.00: Musical Mass in honour of San José in the church of San José in Puerto de Mazarrón.
20.00: Official opening ceremony at the church of San José.
Thursday March 17
17.00: The funfair attractions open at the marquee on the Playa del Rihuete.
Friday March 18
16.30: The marquee on the Playa del Rihuete opens with a live concert by the Zona Azul orchestra and DJs.
16.30: Guided tour of the fish market (duration 2 hours) (in Spanish). Registration at www.visitamazarron.com.
17.00: Funfair attractions open.
18.00: Opening of the medieval market on the Paseo del Rihuete.
Saturday March 19, the feast day of San José
11.00: The first part of the day’s processions, as the figure of San José is carried to the seafront from the church of San José along Calle Cartagena, Calle Trafalgar, Calle Progreso, Calle Mayor, Calle Hernán Cortés, Plaza del Muelle, Paseo Marítimo and the Plaza de las Comunidades.
11.00: Guided tour of the Phoenician Boats Interpretation Centre, the Roman house on Calle Era and the hill of Cabezo del Sagrado Corazón (approximately 2 hours). Registration at www.visitamazarron.com.
11.00: The medieval market opens on Paseo del Rihuete.
11.30: Musical entertainment for children at the marquee, El Musical de la Granja.
12.00: Funfair attractions open.
13.15: The processions continue as the figure of San José makes its way from the Plaza de las Comunidades back to the church of San José, along Plaza del Muelle, the Paseo Marítimo, Calle Hernán Cortés, Toneleros, Avenida Tierno Galván, Calle González Ballesta and Calle Mayor.
16.30: Live music from Aire Puro and DJs at the marquee.
19.00: Live concert by Rasel in the Puerto Deportivo.
23.00: The ceremonial burning of the Falla at the marquee by the Rihuete seafront.
Sunday March 20
11.00: Guided tour of the Phoenician Boats Interpretation Centre, the Roman house on Calle Era and the hill of Cabezo del Sagrado Corazón (approximately 2 hours). Registration at www.visitamazarron.com.
11.00 – 14.00: Fun workshops for all the family at the Rihuete marquee.
11.00: The medieval market opens.
12.00: Funfair attractions open.
12.00: La Espartera perform live at the Rihuete marquee.
12.00: Street parade starts in the Plaza de las Comunidades Autónomas, progressing to the marquee.
16.30: Aires de Veleta and DJs perform live at the marquee.
