DO Yecla wines accompany the finest tapas in Yecla at just 4 euros a time!

March 16 Closing fair of the annual Tapas and Wine Route in Yecla The Ruta del Vino of Yecla is holding its 12th annual Tapas and Wine route in the town from February 18 to March 16 with the participation of 14 local bars and restaurants competing to serve the best tapa accompanied by wine produced locally and sporting the DO Yecla label, and the annual open-air closing fair of the event is being held on Sunday 16th March in the Plaza de la Constitución, starting at 12.00 midday.

Passports for the route can be collected in any of the hostelries taking part, and stamps can be collected at the different venues during the 4 weeks.

March 16 Closing fair of the annual Tapas and Wine Route in Yecla Each order of a tapa and a glass of wine is priced at 4 euros and the establishments taking part are Tejota; Sierra Cazorla; Kasa Ortega; Arrocería Brandy; Candilejas; Restaurante Aurora; Tapeo; Bar Gaggia; Olivo de Jaén; Barrabás; Pachamama; Peña Taurina; Tapeoteca and Bar Ideal. Vouchers for the closing fair, including three tapas and two glasses of wine can be purchased in advance online here at 11 euros, with the option of adding a commemorative glass and tasting pallet for an extra 4 euros.

The wines are provided by Bodegas La Purísima, Señorío de Barahonda, Bodegas Castaño, Bodegas Evine and Bodegas Conde de Montornés.

A final prize draws is also taking place on March 17 for those who have submitted their photos of the event at www.rutadelvinoyecla.com/concursotapayvino. For those completing the route the prize draw includes vouchers for 200 euros and minor prizes of between 5 and 60 euros.

Since early 2025, due to renovation work at the usual office, the service has been located on the other side of the Plaza Mayor at Calle Epifanio Ibáñez nº 2 (click for map).

Yecla Tourist Office Yecla is a large municipality in the north of the Region of Murcia, home to just under 35,000 people, and these days is best known for its wines, which enjoy Denomination of Origin status, and its furniture production, which has its origins in the abundance of pine trees on the mountainsides and the high plateaux.

Yecla Tourist Office While visitors in the 21st century may be attracted primarily by wine tourism, the town (or city, as it was proclaimed in 1878) also has a wide historical, cultural and natural heritage, and an identity quite different from the coastal areas of the Region of Murcia. For this reason it is often grouped together with its neighbour and fellow wine-producing area Jumilla as part of the Altiplano area.

Yecla borders with Castilla-La Mancha and the Region of Valencia and is closer to Alicante coastal areas than much of Murcia. These visitors come to see the historic old town itself - an atmospheric and interesting place, crammed full of history - the natural beauty of Monte Arabí, with stunning views for those who enjoy the outdoors, the gastonomy and of course the wine route.

Yecla Tourist Office Yecla boasts cave paintings from 10,000 years ago in Monte Arabí, a Bronze Age settlement at El Arabilejo, Iberian remains in El Pulpillo and a Roman administrative centre at Los Torrejones as well as the remnants of the 11th century Moorish castle on the hill behind the town. More modern (and complete) testimony to the past are the buildings in the town centre, which include the grandiose Basílica de la Purísima, with its striking blue dome, the archaeological museum and the attractive Plaza Mayor, where the 16th century Town Hall stands alongside the Renaissance Casa de los Alarcos, the clock tower and the old grain store.
